Packers, Steelers Win in Optimist Football

The following are flag football results reported by the Sandhills Optimist Club.
Packers 30, Patriots 14: Pats got the ball moving through the air with several passes from Tristan Helms to Ryan Bender. Bender caught one for a touchdown and also scored on a running play. The Patriot defense was led by linebackers Justin Sengkhamp-hong, LaShawn Hollingsworth, Helms and defensive linemen Malik Newsome and Thomas Bagget.
For the Packers, Austin Embler and Brandon Smith combined for 180 yards rushing, while quarterback Tyler Packard directed the offense without a turnover. The offensive line of Cody Volk, Tristian Mullins, Gregory Mello, Brian Hedrick and Austin Fowler played well. The defense was led by Dylan Russell and Hunter Belton.
Steelers 12, Panthers 0: For the Steelers, Nick Lacy rushed for 136 yards and scored on runs of 62 and 55 yards. Defensively, Matthew Mindak made a touchdown-saving tackle at the end of the first half. Ryan Weibert, Logan Crisp, Cody Lundy and J.T. O'Shea were solid on defense.
Tailback Zach Cooper led the Panthers with 65 yards rushing, while quarterback Matt Epley connected on a 55-yard pass to wide receiver Austin Blue. Fullback Michael Bullard and tailback Armani McCoy combined to rush for an additional 60 yards, but turnovers and penalties kept the team out of the end zone. The Panthers got strong defensive performances from Nick Conti, Michael Bullard, Thomas Powers and Zach Cooper.
