It's too bad that it takes all this controversy, over whether or not to cancel the varsity football season, for the team to get this much recognition. Yes, there have been articles written, but most of the time our scores and stories are lumped with Union Pines and North Moore.
If all this controversy could be turned around in the form of support for the team, the football players wouldn't feel like they are getting beat up mentally on and off the school campus as well as physically on the playing field.
Everyone is worried about the band and the cheerleaders. And what about homecoming? Do any of the students, teachers, and coaches of other sports at Pinecrest really care about the players?
We need to build up these young men and stop tearing them down. They are working, in most cases, to the best of their abilities and are not receiving the support they deserve from the school community.
Sure, my husband is the football coach, but we attend baseball games, basketball games, and wrestling matches. We watch soccer over the fence when we can (it is during football season most of the time). We are there to support the players and the other coaches. I enjoy hearing the band and the cheerleaders at games.
We all need to support our student athletes, no matter what sport they play. We should be glad that they want to participate in school activities. I am proud of these young men and my husband for what they are trying to accomplish through all this turmoil.
