Five different players scored goals as the Union Pines Boys' soccer team shut out Cape Fear Valley foe Gray's Creek 5-0 on the road Monday night.
Finding the net for the undefeated Vikings were Matt Williamson, Carson McLean, Dalton Hadlock, Alex Wilson and Chris Wylie.
Hadlock, McLean and Jarrod Hayeslette contributed assists. Travis Frazier was in the goal for the Vikings' third shutout victory of the season.
Union Pines improved to 6-0 (3-0 conference), while Gray's Creek dropped to 3-2 (2-1).
First place in the league will be on the line Wednesday, when the Vikings entertain Harnett Central (5-1, 3-0) at7 p.m.
The Union Pines JV team also won 5-0 Wednesday. The Vikings also move to 5-0 and remain unscored upon this season. Wednesday's JV match against Harnett Central is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
North Moore Soccer
The North Moore boys' soccer team opened Yadkin Valley Conference play with a 4-1 victory at South Davidson on Monday night.
The Mustangs, 4-2 overall, are the fifth-ranked team in the 1-A coaches' association poll this week.
Pinecrest Soccer
Brandon Zoellner, Russell Stewart and Glen Holmes scored goals as the Pinecrest boys' soccer team opened Mid-Southeastern Conference play with a 4-0 victory at home over Scotland County.
The Patriots, 5-1 overall, are ranked 14th in this week's coaches' association poll. Wednesday they travel to Richmond County for another league contest.
The Patriot JV team defeated Scotland 7-0 for its fourth shutout victory in as many starts.
Girls' Golf
Led by medalist Jordan Ridge, the Pinecrest girls' golf team won its second Mid-Southeastern Conference match of the season at Willow Lakes in Fayetteville on Monday afternoon.
Ridge and Gretchen McCLain of Douglas Byrd led the field with rounds of 80 and 87, respectively. Other scores making up the Patriot team total of 354 were Tiffany Phasukkan, 89, Jamie Mathews, 92, and Michelle Sohn, 93. The other team scores were Richmond County,423, Jack Britt, 481, Hoke County, 509 and Westover, 562.
Playing as anon-league member, Union Pines posted a score of 396. The Vikingscores included Katie Roberts' 92, Laura Kinsman's 101, Hunter Horne's 100 and Amanda D'Ostroph's 103.
Mid-Southeastern Conference play continues with a match Monday at Richmond Pines.
Union Pines is scheduled to meet Southern Lee at Whispering Pines Country Club on Thursday, starting at 3 p.m.
Union Pines Tennis
Union Pines continues to roll along in girls' tennis this season, picking up a 9-0 win at Western Harnett on Monday.
The Vikings are now 6-0, all in Cape Fear Valley Conference action, and really have not been tested this season.
In the six singles and three doubles matches contested, Western Harnett only won a total of three games. All matches were 10-game pro sets.
Samantha Marsh picked up her first win as a Viking when she teamed with Kendra Black to win 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Volleyball -- Hoke at Pinecrest, 6 p.m. (JV, 5 p.m.); South Johnston at Union Pines, 5:30 p.m. (JV, 4:30 p.m.); High Point Christian at O'Neal, 5:15 p.m.
