The Sandhills Optimist Club reported the following results from its football league.
Tackle Football League
Redskins 24, Steelers 12: For the Redskins, Jackson Maples scored two touchdowns, one on a 45-yard scamper and a second three-yard score that was setup by a Dalton Bullard interception that he returned 25 yards. Carson Maples scored the third touchdown on a 30-yard run.
The Redskins' offense ran well all day behind the blocking of Will Morris, Tim Morphin, Brett Stewart, Eric Gunther, Dylan Leija, Conley Lomax and Dave Ivey, as well as backs Tanner Haley and Andrew Turner. The Redskin defense was led by Carson Maples, Cody Artman, Jacob Hofststter and Devon Oldham.
For the Steelers, Nick Lacy scored from 35 and 60 yards out and rushed for a total of 135 yards.
Defensively, Logan Crisp, Corley Walker, Chris Isom and Alex Holler all played a solid game.
Packers 16, Patriots 6: The Patriots started an 8-year-old Hunter Burns at quarterback to try and spark the offense. This also allowed their most effective running back, Tristan Helms, to get more carries. This worked for the first half with the Patriots taking a 6-0 lead at halftime.
But turnovers and having to have most of their players go both ways took a toll on the Patriots. Leading the Patriots on offense were Tristan Helms, Burns, Justin Sengkhamphong and great blocking from Malik Newsome, Thomas Baggett, John Major, Brandon Parks and William Millikan. The Patriots were led on defense by Malik Newsome, John Major, Helms, Sengkamphong, Zion Ervin, Thomas Baggett, Grant Williams, Dakota Hill, Dakota Nelson and "Crash" Burns.
