District No. 8 of the Garden Club of N.C. Inc., will hold its annual meeting in Pinehurst on Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Garden club presidents and representatives from Chatham, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Moore, Robeson and Scotland counties are expected to be in attendance along with district and state officers of GCNC.

State President Jackie Dellinger, of Newton, will be in attendance along with several state vice presidents. District Chairman Debra Magee, of Pittsboro, will preside for the business session and luncheon.

The morning business session for representative will start at 9:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon at 12:30 p.m.

Featured speaker for the luncheon will be Janine Nicholson, outreach and education coordinator for the office of Conservation and Community Affairs with the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources. She will be sharing some of the new program areas being developed with North Carolina relative to conservation and environment. With a projected population increase in out state of 50 percent within the next 25 years, it is imperative that plans be made for this growth in areas including conservation and environment.

"Local garden club members, civic leaders and interested citizens are urged to attend the 12:30 luncheon and hear what is on the horizon for North Carolina's immediate future preparation as we grow in population," says a spokesman.

Reservations for lunch and an opportunity to meet Janine Nicholson can be made by calling 692-7272 or 246-1698 by Monday, Oct. 23.
