The Pinecrest boys' and girls' cross country teams both finished second in Saturday's Tanglewood Invitational in Clemmons.

Running on the course that will be the venue for this year's state championships, the Patriots' Andy Wacker won the boys' championship race with a time of 15:51. He was followed in by teammates Brett Baggett, 12th (16:55), Mark Moon, 17th (17:14), Andrew Garrison, 26th (17:26) and Billy Gehrung, 40th (17:46).

Broughton came in first as a team with 82 points to 93 for Pinecrest.

T.C. Roberson was first as a team in the girls' championship racewith 66 points, while second place Pinecrest finished with a total of 131.

Marley Burns of Carolina Day bested all girls with a time of 18:53.Amanda McKinney, 12th (20:08) was the top finisher for the Patriot girls. Teammatescontributing tothe Patriot point total were Stephanie Shannon, 18th (20:32), Rebecca Dupre, 22nd (20:39), Lauren Bishop, 25th (20:53) and Lexie Schustrom, 59th (21:55).

The Pinecrest boys were first in the jayvee race, led by Craig Baggett, third (18:07), Scott Whitecar, fourth (18:09) and Bryce Pittard, fifth (18:10). Also finishing in the top 20 were for the Pats were Travis Hart, 13th (18:27) and Jordan Walters, 20th (18:44).

O'Neal Soccer

The O'Neal School boys' soccer team was knocked out of the Triad Athletic Conference Tournament on penalty kicks Saturday afternoon at American Hebrew Academy.

The semi-final match against High Point Christian ended at 1-1 in regulation after the Falcons' Willie Ross fed Mark Novosel for the tying goal. High Point Christian went on to prevail 3-1 on penalty kicks.

O'Neal (9-6-4)reached the semi-final by defeating Carolina Friends 2-1 at home Thursday. The Falcon goals were scored by Alex Shore and Will Cutler.
