Janet Claire Daly, 75, of Seven Lakes, formerly of Fairfax, Va., died peacefully at her home on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6, at West End Presbyterian Church in West End, with the Rev. Robert Martin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Mrs. Daly was born April 13, 1931, in Washington, D.C., to George C. Sims and Mary V. Sims.

She was a 1949 graduate of Washington Lee High School in Arlington, Va., and worked as a secretary for the U.S. Air Force at the Pentagon in the early 1950s. She retired from the Fairfax County Public Schools with 25 years as a media aide.

Mrs. Daly has been a member of West End Presbyterian Church for seven years. Prior to moving to Seven Lakes in 1999, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Springfield, Va. She was also a member of the Country Club of Fairfax and active with the Northern Virginia Country Western Dance Association. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed world travel and many styles of dancing. In North Carolina, Jan was a member of the Beacon Ridge Country Club as well as the book club and Women's Auxiliary of Seven Lakes.

She was preceded in death by her father, George C. Sims.

Mrs. Daly is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ronald Lee Daly; her mother, Mary V. Sims of Fairfax, Va.; her son, R. Keith Daly of Annandale, Va.; her daughters, Noreen Daly of Montross, Va., and Gayle Daly Peterman of Alexandria, Va.; her brother, Garland D. Sims of New York, N.Y.; a sister, Betty Lou Gonella of Burke, Va.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.

Boles Funeral Home of Seven Lakes is serving the family.
