Swift Boat Veterans

In response to Mr. Dunn's Nov. 17 letter: Just a few facts for you. The Swift Boat veterans did quite a bit more than just "wear the uniform," as you suggest. They all served in the same unit as John Kerry (Coastal Division 11) in Vietnam.

Some were his direct superiors, to include his commander. Some were sailors that served under his command, and some were fellow officers who relied on each other's support during combat operations (all of which is well documented).

All personnel that criticized his actions were present during those actions or were officers acting upon statements from those that were present. Again, all well documented if you would like to look up facts before you put pen to paper.

All were degraded by lies and false accusations John Kerry made in the press about their Vietnam service. They were entitled to defend themselves in the media in 1971 and again in 2004.

If a candidate like John Kerry wants to run for political office and part of his platform is his military service, his service should be open for public scrutiny in the press.

Whether you like their opinions or not, the Swift Boat veterans have more than earned the right to have their voices heard.

Unfortunately, I think you fall in the category of the "gullible American public" that you described in your letter to The Pilot.
