Jean Shaffer Hill Marett, 63, a longtime resident of Cumming, Ga., died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, of cancer at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the First United Methodist Church of Marietta, 56 Whitlock Avenue, Marietta, Ga., in the chapel. The family will greet friends in the parlor at 10 a.m. and they will receive friends at 1566 Center Cross Pass, Marietta, Ga., immediately following the service.

Mrs. Marett was born in Greensboro, where she graduated from Greensboro Senior High School in 1961, and was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church. She attended Elon College in Burlington. She relocated to Marietta, Ga., in 1974 and then to Forsyth County in 1995. Prior to moving to Georgia, she lived in Greenville, S.C., Charlotte and Pittsburgh, Pa. Before her retirement, she worked at American Millwork Inc. in Cumming, Ga. She was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Marett was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel W. Shaffer and Kathleen L. Shaffer; her brother, W. Samuel Shaffer; and her husband, William W. Marett.

Mrs. Marett is survived by her daughters, Nikole Hill Edmonds of Marietta, Ga., and Ashley Hill McSween of Cumming, Ga.; her sons, John Wilson Shaffer Hill of Cartersville, Ga., and David Shaffer Hill of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her sister, Kay Shaffer Essick of Pinehurst; her sister-in-law, Cynthia P. Shaffer of Chapel Hill; her niece, Shannon Essick Salvador of Charlotte; her nephew, Chris Essick of Colorado; and four grandchildren, Samantha Edmonds, Colin Edmonds, Meghan Awbrey and Caroline McSween.
