A Very Precious Thread

There has always been a thread running through our lives, year after year, generation after generation. Holding on to that thread have been the hands of special people who quietly, steadfastly hold everything together.

There have always been crazies on the left and on the right making all kinds of noise, all kinds of trouble. But those with their hands on the thread keep us moving forward. They are the best of us, the heart and soul of us, they are why we last.

You introduced us to one when you told the story of Jennifer Bowles (column, Nov. 8) and how she and her family go to the polls to vote. Just a simple little story but containing the power that keeps men free.

Thank you for introducing us to Jennifer. It's nice to know those hands are still holding on tight and that the thread is still there.
