WEB: Registered Sex Offender Arrested On 10 Counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor

Moore County Sheriff's deputies arrested a registered sex offender on 10 charges of sexual exploitation Thursday.

Robert Henry Roybal, 39, is charged with five counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor and five counts of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor based on the findings of a search of his residence Thursday, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies executed a search warrant at Roybal's home, at 5044 Niagara/Carthage Road near Southern Pines.

They found and seized numerous digital video discs, VHS tapes, a computer, photographs, 11 marijuana plants, 104 grams of marijuana, less than one gram of crack cocaine, items of drug paraphernalia and $71.

During the search, deputies viewed images on some of the video tapes of children, ages from approximately 3 to 14 years old, engaging in sexual acts with adults, the release states.

In addition to the exploitation charges, Roybal is charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana; felony possession of marijuana; felony possession of cocaine; manufacture marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The estimated street value of the seized drugs was $3,000.

He received a $500,000 secured bond and is in the Moore County Detention Center.

Roybal is listed as a registered sex offender on the Sexual Offender Registry for the State of North Carolina.

Pinehurst Police charged Roybal previously with one count of first degree sex offense with a child and one count of indecent liberties with a child on Oct. 9, 2000. Roybal pled guilty to the indecent liberties with a child count June 5, 2001.

Deputies are continuing the investigation and anticipate additional charges being filed. They request that anyone with information concerning Roybal contact the Sheriff's Office, at 910-947-2931.
