Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake with full military honors.

The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home Friday (today) from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the residence.

A native of McDowell, W.Va., he was a son of the late Sam and Sadie Lambert Dean. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the U.S. Air Force for 16 years and then the U.S. Army for four years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Kathleen Collins and Ilene Caudill; and a brother, Harold Dean.

Mr. Dean is survived by his wife, Jane Petitt Dean; his daughters, Leslie Mays and her husband, Ken, of Oak Ridge, Catherine Bowling and her husband, John, of Abington, Va., and Lorna Thomas and her husband, Kevin, of Hermitage, Tenn.; his sons, Brett Hearl and his wife, Paula, of Boise, Idaho, Douglas Dean of San Antonio, Texas, Jeff Dean of Wyoming, and Craig Dean and his wife, Michelle, of New Zeland; his three grandchildren, Benjamin, Kaleb and Seth; and one great-granddaughter, Gracie Lynn.
