Dodson's Good Writing

Every Sunday I remind myself that I should write to tell you I thoroughly enjoy your work and I am so glad that you have become such an important part of this community. Your decision to extend your stay was welcome news.

Your column about your friend, Arnold Palmer (June 25), was exceptional. I have followed him for over 40 years and am proud to be a member of "The Army."

On numerous occasions in the Sixties, I was thrilled to see Arnold at the GGO and to see how he personified the spirit of competition, and how he raised the level of sportsmanship to a level that few athletes can even imagine.

Since the last appearance of Arnold at the British Open, the photo of him standing on the bridge and waving to the crowd has been one of the most inspiring photos I have ever seen.

I would go to great lengths to be able to thank him personally for the inspiration he has provided me over the years (and still does).

Thank you again for your wonderful work, even though several Sunday mornings it has been difficult to read your column because of the "sudden" watering of my eyes.
