Nannie "Nan" Jane McKenzie McDonald, 91, of Aberdeen, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Kingswood Nursing Center in Aberdeen.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 21, at McDonalds Chapel Presbyterian Church on Foxfire Road, with the Revs. Dudley Crawford and Don Welch officiating.

After the service, a committal service will be conducted in the McDonalds Chapel cemetery, after which the family will receive friends in the church's activity room.

McDonald was born March 11, 1915, near Pinehurst. She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Ada Wilhoit McKenzie. After her education, Mrs. McDonald worked in Pinehurst until her marriage to Daniel P. McDonald in 1935.

During the early part of their marriage, the couple lived the Pinehurst area, where her husband was employed. When he went into business for himself, the couple moved into the family home on Foxfire Road. They lived and worked there until it became necessary to have care and treatment in Kingswood Nursing Center.

Nannie McDonald was a member of McDonalds Chapel Presbyterian Church. She was a charter member of that church and was awarded a life membership in the church's Women of the Church, honoring her long and devoted stewardship to that organization.

"Mrs. McDonald was a loving and able parent," said a family spokesman. "She was also a faithful wife, business secretary and supporter of her husband's business."

She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Ellis J. McKenzie; and a great-grandchild.

Nannie McDonald parented three children, two of her own and her husband's niece. They are V. Paul McDonald and his wife, Carolyn, of Southern Pines; Joan McDonald Manuel of Grass Valley, Calif.; and her niece, Sharon L. McDonald of Aberdeen.

Mrs. McDonald is survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Jack Short of Southern Pines, Mrs. Donald Oldham of Pinehurst and Mrs. Elsie Black of Pinehurst.

Memorials may be made to McDonalds Chapel Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, 1374 Foxfire Road, Aberdeen, NC 28315 or to an organization of one's choice.

Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst is in charge of arrangements.
