The North Moore High School basketball teams traveled to South Davidson on Tuesday night, picking up two wins in their Yadkin Valley Conference openers.
The Mustang girls won the first game by a score of 56-46, while the boys completed the sweep by defeating the Wildcats, 61-53.
"South Davidson tried to pressure Allison (Braswell) in the early part of the game, but we got through their press, and they came out of it after a while," said Mustang coach Sammy McNeill. "We played a good game against them."
Braswell ended up with a game-high 26 points, so the pressure didn't seem to bother her very much. The two teams played even for the first quarter, which ended with the score tied at 10-all. However, the Mustang defense limited the Wildcats to only four points in the second quarter in taking a 22-14 halftime lead.
Logan Monroe contributed 14 points for the Mustangs. Jenna Shaw was high for South Davidson with 15 points.
North Moore's overall record for the season improved to 6-2.
In the boys' game, North Moore led from start to finish, leading by a score of 15-12 at the end of the first quarter, and 30-25 at the half.
"We had a 14-point lead at one point," said Mustang coach Chris Coble, "but we just couldn't seem to close it out the way we should have at the end."
Jerome Maness was high scorer for North Moore with 18 points, while Marshallrett Ross added 16 points. Josh Aldridge was high for the game, scoring 19 points for South Davidson. North Moore's record improved to 4-3 with the win.
The Mustangs have a home conference doubleheader against Chatham Central tonight.
