Mary Lathan Carpenter, 84, of Wagram, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

A graveside service will be held at noon, Thursday, Dec. 14, at Pinebluff Cemetery, with the Rev. Howard Whitehurst officiating.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Southern Pines.

Mrs. Carpenter was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Richmond County to the late William Walter Lathan and Laura Tyner Lathan. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church in Laurinburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Carpenter Sr.

Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her son, Joe M. Carpenter Jr. of Wagram; her two daughters, Linda Carpenter Bennie of Townsend, Tenn., and Anne Carpenter Taylor of Marston; two brothers, William "Bill" Lathan and Morris Lathan, both of Marston; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church, 15301 McFarland Road, Laurinburg, NC 28352.

Boles Funeral Home and Crematory of Southern Pines is serving the family.
