Luther Signs on For New Program

Moore County schools launched a new volunteer program called "Luther and Friends Canine Visitors Bureau" in August.
Luther began his career as a Moore County School volunteer in September 2005. A rescue dog from The Haven, Luther is certified through Therapy Dogs International and has a Canine Good Citizenship Certificate issued through the American Kennel Club.
Luther was the first TDI Children Reading to Dogs volunteer in the Moore county schools.
The inaugural class for "Luther's Friends" was held on Aug. 10, at the Agriculture Center in Carthage. Fourteen teams were TDI and A.K.C. certified and are currently volunteering in Moore County Primary and Elementary Schools.
The second class received training from Trainer Barbara Randall and were TDI tested on Nov. 16. C.A.R.E teams who successfully pass TDI certification will receive orientation on Jan. 12 to prepare them to join TDI's Children Reading to Dogs program in the Moore county Schools.
A meeting for future recruits in the Luther and Friends Canine Visitors Bureau will be held at the Ag Center in Carthage on Jan. 12, at 9:30 a.m., following graduation of the second class.
