Moore Playhouse Sets 'Alice in Wonderland' Auditions
Moore Playhouse offers a performance workshop for children ages 3 to 14.
The workshop fee is $250, with discounts for multiple family members. Moore Playhouse is responsible for all costumes, sets and props. There is a $25 nonrefundable registration fee due at time of auditions with the remaining balance due Monday, Sept. 11.
Auditions will be held for "Alice in Wonderland," Saturday, Sept. 9 (10 a.m. to noon for ages 4 to 8, and 1 to 3 p.m. for ages 9 to 14).
Callbacks will be held Sunday, Sept. 10, from 1:30 to 4 p.m., and rehearsals begin Monday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m.
"There are many male and female roles available, including several dance solos," says Director Julianna Johnston.
Children need no experience or prepared material to audition for any of the performance-based workshops. They will receive instruction in drama, dance, music, basic stage, set design and construction, costuming, and makeup throughout each eight-week rehearsal process that concludes with a Thursday-through-Sunday performance run open to the general public.
Workshop hours are Monday and Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., beginning Monday, Sept 11. Additional Saturday rehearsals may begin Oct. 7, from 10 a.m to noon. Performance dates are Nov. 2-5.
Classes for young children include "Fairytale Theater" for ages 3-5, instructed by Julianna Carson. The three-year-olds meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m., with the four-and-five-year-olds meeting from 10 to 11 a.m.
Each week the children will be introduced to a traditional fairy tale that has been rewritten in script format specifically for age-appropriate presentation.
Children will be introduced to basic stage directions, creative movement and play, theater games, music and beginning stage choreography. (Children may take 1 or 2 classes a week.) The fee is $50 per month for one-day classes and $85 for twice a week, with a one-time registration fee of $50. Multiple family discounts apply.
Playhouse Children's Company
Throughout this year, the Moore Playhouse will select 12 children, ages 6-14, to form the Moore Playhouse 2007 Children's Company.
Children must be able to sing, dance and have basic stage knowledge.
"Previous experience is great but natural talent, love, desire and dedication are better," says Julianna Carson, instructor.
The company will take a class and rehearse twice a week. They will have a performance-ready 'review' available for presentation in schools, residential homes, retirement communities, special events and festivals at all times.
They will also present a springtime lunchbox series, "children performing for children."
