Two Sanford residents died in a wreck Tuesday afternoon north of Carthage when a car collided with a dump truck.
According to the State Highway Patrol, Wilber Cofery, 32, and Harry Dobbins II, 24, died in the wreck. The driver, Cofery, had lost control of the vehicle and slid into the truck, which was coming from the other direction.
Cofery was driving a 1989 Mazda south on Wadsworth Road. A dump truck driven by Larry Walter Sharpe of Sanford was headed north on Wadsworth Road.
Near the intersection of Wadsworth and Crawley Creek Road, the Mazda went off the right side of the road. The driver overcorrected and crossed the center line. The car slid sideways in to the path of the truck. The car struck the truck at a high rate of speed.
