The funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 22, at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Hall officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow in the mausoleum at Richmond Memorial Park.

Mr. Hare was born Dec. 7, 1926 in Portsmouth County, Va., a son of the late Julia Pittman and Wade Hampton Hare. He was a retired conductor from CSX Railroad with 43 years of service. He was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church and was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Navy, participating in three invasions. He was a lifetime member of the DAV.

Mr. Hare is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris Donathan Hare; three daughters, Carolyn Saville and her husband, Rocky, of Ocean Isle, Renee Monroe and her husband, Phillip, of Carthage, and Sue Baldwin and her husband, Jimmy, of Rockingham; a son, Wayne Hare and his wife, Sharon, of New Hill; one brother, Melvin Hare of Atlanta; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
