Congratulations Lane on your retirement. You have deserved it. May God bless you and may you enjoy your time now. You have served the people of Moore County well. Thank you for your dedication and service.
Congratulations Bob. I know you will do a great job as you always have. Southern Pines is very fortunate to have a Chief of your integrity and dedication.
I have observed twice in the past two weeks two situations which really say a lot about some people receiving the public assistance. First was at Wal Mart where a couple with two buggies full to overflowing with items paid for the items with a food stamp card. Then paid cash for alcohol and cigarettes. The subjects both had tattoos and cell phones. We the tax paying citizens paid for the food so they could enjoy their items of choice.
Again on Tuesday of this week I observed the same situation take place at Food Lion in Seven Lakes. The female of this group after paying for over $300.00 in food items and loading them in care. Went directly into the cigarette/Sweepstakes business next door to Food Lion for pleasure I assume. This is very frustrating when the working class folks have to manage and count their change and get the items they can afford instead of depending on public assistance.
Great idea. It is so frustrating when a working person is in line at the grocery store or WalMart for that matter and you see one person or two in line in front or next to you with two grocery carts full as so full they are overflowing and then they pay with a food stamp card. The person has multiple tattoos and a android cell phone buying beer and cigarettes with cash. Something is wrong with the system. The person is a known drug dealer and does not work anywhere other than the streets. I think it is about time that our law makers and those who appropriate state and federal funding take a closer look at the system by which these funds are provided and make those accountable for require and need assistance. Those who can afford the luxuries of cell phones and tattoos and cigarettes can certainly afford to care for themselves and their children and should be required to do so.
Mike I am glad to see you are finally taking advantage of a retirement you surely deserve. You have served and continue to serve well and I am sure you will be missed by many. Now it is time for enjoying your family and your friends on your schedule.. Best wishes my friend.
The Moore Free Clinic does a great service in the community. I know several people who are cared for by the men and women who work at the clinic. Those who have been laid off from their jobs and have no medical insurance depend on this service. For many years I committed my United Way donation to this clinic. It was one which is needed and definitely has my support in anyway possible. There is a special reward in heaven for those who volunteer to help those in need. Thanks goes out to all those involved.

Sorry to hear of the allegation of Officer Branson. I have known him for many years and have found him to be a very focused and dedicated to doing the right thing. However, he should not be found guilty of any allegations without a full investigation of all facts. Law enforcement agencies should always investigation any and all complaints from citizens however, many are found to be inaccurate reports or unfounded complaints in the end. This type of complaint should be investigated each an everytime and a report provided to the person who allegedly was wronged. Of course, law enforcement is mostly a thankless job especially by the guilty party.Cameras are always a plus and most agencies now have them onboard. They really help when this type of allegation is made they do not lie. I am sure the Aberdeen Police Chief will make certain the facts are revealed.
Lane will be greatly missed. He is liked by all who know him if they are on the right side of the law. He has served and continues to serve with honor. Sheriff, wishing you the best in retirement and enjoy it your way.
