The Aug 25/Jun 10 law was enacted several years ago for those schools on a TRADITIONAL calendar.

As for protecting MLK day, look at a history book and see why MLK is so significant in our nation's history, especially for minorities.

Some folks on this discussion just want to argue until someone else says they are right! The decision has been made, and as Purser said, there will be inconvenience regardless of the decision, so we have to live with it and move on.

Unfortunately, crime stories are what attracts the readers. I guess with the cold weather, people arent golfing, so the pilot has to focus on something else.

If the signs are such an issue, then the folks complaining need to pull their cash together and rent the space themselves. I live in Pinehurst where people gripe about senseless things that dont really matter (too many trees on a property, grass is too tall, trash cans left out after 7pm etc.)

Sounds to me that these Carthage folks are also getting obsessed with similar things and losing sight of reality and what really matters. Then to make it worse, The Pilot gives these people top billing on the front page! ARRRRGH!!!

Yes--Mr. Purvis has put in many years of dedicated service to Union Pines, both as a coach and a teacher.

We wish him the best of luck in his new assignment. This promotion is well-deserved!
