"however, we felt it best to begin a search for a new head football coach for the 2013-14 school year"
Are there some things that are "between the lines" that are not printed in this article? It clearly says that he RESIGNED. The above quote from the principal makes it seem as though it was not his (The coach's) choice.
Wow! What an excellent example of student leadership. Way to go!
What a great story!!! It is a shame that The Pilot could not give it higher billing on the front page.
I don't think anything was being implied. I was at the concert, and I saw a school group
of students from High Falls school that came to the concert by bus with their music teacher.
He may have been referring to that. Don't know.....
One would think that the traffic circle was the only place in Moore County in need of improvements.
Some of our school buildings could use renovation and there are lots of local families in poverty, but I guess it's more important to prepare the circle for the 2014 US Open. Priorities!
True! You did not directly say anything about the hard working teachers and students. However, when you make a statement like "why are students not well educated when they graduate?" what does that heavily imply? I interpret it as an insult to the entire school system from the elected board members, to the superintendent, the principals, teachers, assistants....EVERYONE!
Bottom line ... You are judging and generalizing the merit of our school system based on one remedial class at SCC. I think it is a great thing that low performing students are moving on to get education beyond high school! Furthermore, I am glad that SCC has programs in place to give such students the means to be successful and competitive in the job market. Without such options, what opportunity would they have?
I invite you to visit or volunteer in one of our schools for just one day, and you will see how hard the teachers and students work each and every day. One of our high schools achieved a 91.4% graduation rate which exceeds the state average just this past year.
You use the tutoring lab at SCC as justification of slamming our system. Have you visited campuses of the UNC system to see our graduates being successful? Or how about other classrooms at SCC.
I would get my donuts from Granny's and then run over to DD for some coffee.
I just hope that Granny's will stay afloat with DD across the street.
Don't we have enough drug stores in that area? We already have Walgreen's, Rite Aid, and Moore Drug (a local business). There is also a pharmacy in Harris Teeter.
However, we must keep in mind that this is the same town board that approved to have a Dunkin Donuts across the street from Granny's Donuts. Way to support our LOCAL businesses!!
This is in response to fugitiveguy's comment about the "many sources of revenue"
If we have this multitude of revenue then explain why:
1. schools are using textbooks that date back as far as 10 years in some cases.
2. public school employees have had frozen salaries for 4 years now.
3. Schools are meeting many basic needs via student fundraisers.
4, Annual budgets continue to be cutback time and time again,
Thats just the tip of the iceberg.
It is unfortunate about the Dollar General situation, but if not for education--where do suggest that money go?
