Fact 1: The frequency of earthquakes and other natural disasters has not increased in resent years. Fact 2: all earthquakes modify our center of rotation. It's called physics. Most of the time it is not measurable or so minute that it doesn't matter.

no, it is not worth every penny when a building less than 1/2 the cost would suffice. No businesses could even come close to building that costly of a building in Southern Pines. Why did they tell us they could build the police station for 3.5 million to begin with and then bump it up to 9 or 10 million or whatever the cost will be? Simple, you can easily build a very nice 30,000 sq ft building for 3.5 million.

10 million dollars for 30,000 sq ft heck throw another 100 grand in for a tree. I'm excited to see what a $300 per square foot building looks like. I hear it didn't meet LEED certification, which is required in many places, but it was ALMOST green! I wonder what the fire station cost? Does anyone know?

I can't think of any better way to spend our tax dollars.....well except for maybe giving it to Leith to keep them out of town.

"These requests are granted, thus you have bright children that should be attending the Southern Pines schools going elsewhere because their parents have instilled in them that they're superior to everyone else."

The bright kids leave not because they are superior to everyone else, they leave because their level of education and work ethic is superior to a lot of the children that go to Southern Middle School.

Bright kids do not lift the other children up to their level. If the bright kids are in an environment with other bright kids they have a better chance to succeed at a higher level.

maybe when the government takes over the insurance companies we can cut his salary by $1,000,000 a year and give that money back to the people that buy insurance. That would amount to slightly over 2 cents per month for the 3.7 million people covered by BCBS. Clearly it's the evil corporate executives to blame.

I can't think of one instance where government legislation has lowered costs on anything.
