Yes, you have problems in the school system. Do you want to know "why?" You are systematically comparing apples and oranges when you insinuate that all schools in the MCS system can be raised to the same bar as, say, West Pine Middle.
The problems at Southern Middle School arise from complacent parents who do not value education. 'nuff said. Want to change things? Hold students accountable and do not kow-tow or pander to political interests.
I defy any school board member to volunteer to teach at SMS for one day to see how it really is. When they realize that teachers deal with miscreant behaviors that detract from the learning environment, they'll sing a different tune.
But would they teach at SMS anonymously? Of course not...it's too much of a photo op and publicity opportunity. In the end, I am reminded of Shakespeare: the prattlings of this school board and this article in the paper is "...full of sound and fury - signifying nothing."
