Tid Bits for the Coming Dog Days of Summer
"Reportedly dog aggressive"? My 10 pound dog, Mac was nearly mauled to death by that dog last Sunday while I was walking him, on leash, in my neighborhood. I took him home from Small Animal Emergency Service 36 hours later with 3 broken ribs, 5 drainage tubes, and more staples than I can count. He had four puncture wounds, a tear in the body wall, and the skin had been shaken loose from the connective tissue.Southern Pines is rife with unrestrained dogs and Animal Control is stunningly blase about the situation. The understatement in your article goes a long way toward explaining why Animal Control has been able to let the situation get to this point. This dog has been wandering around Southern Pines for months, and is now so emboldened that it is only a matter of time until it attacks a small child. I can tell you first hand how much damage it can inflict in the blink of an eye. A community meeting is being held July 16 at 7pm at the Douglas Community Center for anyone concerned about the number of dogs running unrestrained in this area. Linda Selbach
