Vote for Garner
would someone please explain to me how this "tea party" thing works? if they are so interested in financial conservatism and want to throw out of government anyone who "taxes and spends" then why are they backing all the same people. i know that locally they are not "getting involved" but would it hurt for them to live up to their slogans and mention that william garner is more conservative than larry, moe and curly who want to spend, spend, spend followed of course by tax, tax, tax - all under the guise of republican conservatism?? personally, i think that's an oxymoron. if you really care about what happens to moore county in the next few years, then you should consider voting for someone new who might just surprise you.

Other Issues on Jail
i truly don't know where to start....i will begin with this, however, that moore county and "planning" are mutually exclusive terms. if you had attended these meetings for the past year and one half like i have, you would haveseen that this whole detention center business had exactly that - no planning. each little piece has been revealed, then changed, then lied about, then changed, then lied about again. you have learned more about planning and costs from these bloggers who have done resesarch! wow, what a concept! it truly is criminal to watch these elected officials (and by the way, i am personally miffed that i have taxation without any representation in this county) make these incredibly expensive decisions without so much as notice to the surrounding tax paying citizens that their neighborhood was about to change. why weren't they invited to "planning session" meetings...by either the town of carthage who are just as guilty in their neglect as the county commissioners. the idea that people should blindly follow what their elected officials have done just cause we elected them, is so funny i forgot to laugh. ok, so based on that logic, larry, moe and curly want you to jump off that proverbial bridge, right after you pay for it!

Right2Vote Group Considers Petition on Jail
pertaining to or dealing with the principles of morality....pertaining to or dealing with the right or wrong in conduct....that's what ethical means. sort of like the foot stomping, mean spirited outburst of larry caddell, or the mumbling jimmy melton when asked if they would consider having a public forum on this fiasco of a jail situation. " five years we've been at this it's time for a decision" -that's what commissioner caddell said....no one could hear what melton said. wrong on the five years....we bought that piece of scrap land in 2007. tim lea and cindy morgan have made impassioned pleas for a public forum...have asked the other 3 to sit back and look at the costs and what's really necessary. no one in the "stop the detention center in downtown carthage" group has ever doubted the need for expansion. but, this goes beyond the pale when there is no appearance of PLANNING.. everything has been brought to the public attention in pieces. so, i ask you, moore county residents, does this sound like a formula for jumping in with both feet dragging along a 40 million dollar dead weight to be placed on a 1.5 million dollar scrap heap?
"SLOWLY I TURNED, STEP BY STEP, INCH BY INCH".....look that one up, joe.

County Should Stick to Its Guns on Jail
this whole detention center proposal has been nothing but "cut and paste"...if this was in the works like mr. caddell (by the way, picture him stomping his foot like a spoiled child trying to get his way at the last meeting) has said for the last five years, then why hasn't it been rolled out as a complete proposal - with designs, costs, etc. five years in the making should have a much better presentation than what we have witnessed over the last year and one half. if those of you who are so "proud" of the job these commissioners have done and don't feel the need to question then i guess i have swamp land to sell you in florida. have you even bothered to see what this land looks like? do you know that 1/4 of it is un--usable!! yet, i read that we should accept their recommendations based on all the hard work they've put into this - really. we have a right and an obligation to question the money that we spend. we should never blindly accept what elected officals tell us what is good for the community - where have you all been the last 8 years? and, as far as someone suggested in one of these blogs, that those people from carthage that want to move this or detain this thus increasing the cost and expect the rest of moore county to pay for it - well, i have a few choice words for them.....what a bozo.

County Board Debates Cost of New Jail
just an observation based on the meeting which i did attend on tuesday evening. when commissioner caddell did speak, he mentioned his time with former sheriff wise....and how the sheriff had said that the county should have listened to him 20 years ago when he wanted a larger jail than the one that was being built. "if we had done that we wouldn't be in the position we are in now". well, if you take that reasoning, if you had BOTHERED to have a public meeting 3 years ago, if you had BOTHERED to do some real cost analyses, then you wouldn't be hearing from us now. this would have been a mute point. you commissioners put the cart before the horse ....and in this "buggy town" that was your big mistake.

silentbob
so no amount of factual information can get through to you. you have read the blogs of toda and plumblevel and all you took from what they have said is that toda is full of political crap and plumblevel is only concerned about his/her house. wow! again, i reiterate is there no intelligent life out there? toda and plumblevel have written scores of thoughtful, well researched information on the insanity of spending this much money on a jail at this location (not because of his/her house but because of the proximity to children!!!!! in school, at the library, and at the ballfield) not to mention that many other communities have had similar requests for new public safety buildings for much less than 40 million taxpayer dollars. i'm sure when plumblevel mentioned that 40,000 was a lot less than 40 million - his/her point was just to say that we should have had the right to vote on this. what could you possibly be disagreeing with. do you have kids in primary school in carthage - do your children play in the ballfield across the street? do you have a need for your property taxes to go up so that we can make some criminals comfortable? or your property taxes to go down because of this monster in the middle of an historic town? have you attended all the town and commissioners meetings since this has all been revealed? we saw the plans last summer and listened to the rhetoric from the sheriff about the need for more beds - no one disagreed with their need but not in that place and not for that amount of money! what could you possibly be thinking????

Jail Bonds Are Nothing Unusual
why is it not possible to have intelligent conversations? what is smoke and mirrors about what toda wrote - he was merely stating the facts about the debt this county is in to date. silentbob - do just that and keep silent....unless you have factual, insightful and useful commentary. otherwise, you are nothing but "hot air".

Jail Bonds Are Nothing Unusual
nice to see that people care about the money being spent and that we should have had the right2vote on such a huge expenditure. however, i don't want anyone including ms. gilkerson to dismiss those people that started all the "complaining" and their initial concern - which is the location of a large jail across from the ballfield, school and library. if these 5 commissioners wanted to do something really great for the community and use that 1.5 million dollar scrap of land then why not put up a youth center and attach your names to something laudable. put the safety center aka jail where it belongs at the other/outer end of town.

Picerno Responds to Critics: Calls Accusations 'Outright Lies'
although there are a few of you that make my blood boil, i will resist the temptation to correct your mindless statements and will stick to the subject at hand. there are 2 elephants in the room - location and price. there is a reasonable solution - let the people VOTE. as to the matter being discussed over and over, i believe machiavelli said it best ..."for the great majority of mankind are satisfied with appearances as though they were realities and are often more influenced by things that seem than those that are". there should have been recusals by commissioners picerno and caddell at the meeting in june and i believe then we might have been able to get to vote on this 50+ million dollar elephant....being placed on the other 1.5 million dollar elephant. "do the right thing"....let us vote.
