You're right, fugitiveguy. He probably would have been hit. However, how many bystanders would have gotten injured or killed. Also, what would they have done? Someone call out "Okay, who is going to pull out their gun and shoot this guy?" If everyone had a gun, then in that state of panic, probably many would have started shooting. It may have been worse loss of life than what happened. Certainly, many people shooting in a confined area is a sure disaster. Also, many would most likely not be expert marksmen and with panic ensuing, a definite disaster waiting to happen.

Amen, MikeNC and AFCHIEF. What a big waste of energy for lots of people who should be more concerned about unemployment and what is happening to our country financially.

MisterG, you think you have a right to your opinion? Well, do you? Well, so does Mr. Cathy. His was not hate speech nor did he call anyone names or say anything about hating homosexuals. All he did is express his religious beliefs and people have been doing that since the beginning of time.

The man had his say in what he believes and that is his right..period. Too much carrying on about someone standing up for their beliefs and not being afraid to express them. I commend him.

Let's all be like Zimmerman and be ready to whip out our guns and shoot someone we think is a threat. What if in Aurora most of the theatre goers had guns and several had pulled them and started firing at the shooter? What do you think would have happened? If that is the case and we all should carry guns, then we might as well do away with law enforcement. Why do we need them if we all are carrying and ready to shoot. I never cease to be amazed at such lack of common sense that prevails our society.

Old Pilot, PLEASE be sure that you state CORRECTLY the RIGHT kind of guns or the know-it-alls that spend their lives on these blogs will be sure to CORRECT you and indicate how ignorant you are. It must be so nice to be so blessed to know everything about everything. Unfortunately, I used the term "automatic" instead of "semi-automatic" and the know-it-alls made sure to let me know that my opinion is of no consequence since I was so uninformed. I have never in my life seen such nit picking and rudeness. Many on here are such hypocrites that they think they have a right to their opinion, but if someone doesn't agree with them, then that person has NO right to their opinions. Total hypocrites.

JD, what makes you think your conversation is constructive and mine is not? Typical of why it is basically a waste of time trying to have any kind of dialogue here because of the ones who post believing that their opinions and thoughts are important and correct while they throw insults at others who post. Usually it is also the same posters on all the topics.

It is an issue that is idiotic to debate, RmeMP. They most certainly can buy assault weapons. You can go into many gun stores and there they are! Also buying multiple ammunition online with no checks or controls. It will be a sad day when the time comes that, with the thinking of some folks, all people arm themselves and it becomes a war zone on the streets. It will be the time when someone that you make angry driving on the highway just whips out their gun and blows you away. With all the aggressiveness that permeates our society, it is only a matter of time with all this gun possession that there will be killings on a daily basis. If you think it won't happen, think again. Look at how our society has changed over the last twenty years.

Some people, and I say some people, want guns. The question I have is why it is necessary to sell military type assault weapons to the general public? What possible use could a citizen that is not military (for military use) or police (ex. SWAT team) have for a gun that can fire multiple rounds. If people want small handguns for protection or a rifle for hunting then fine. I cannot understand the need for any other type of gun to be in the hands of the public. What will be next?? Get on the internet and order a few bombs? Also, it has been shown that a person that is attempting to use a gun against an intruder or attacker many times has the gun taken away from them and used against them. I don't think that many of the people that purchase guns bother to learn how to properly use them. If you are going to have one, learn to use it.

I also find it disgusting that an organization can be allowed to hold such control over our representatives and push their agenda. No organization should have that kind of power. It is either follow their agenda or risk being bumped out of office. It is dirty politics to the max. No group should be able to influence and push their agenda against what is best for the citizens of this country.
