I wish folks would stop calling these murderers animals. That is an insult to the animal kingdom.

These people are just evil incarnate. They just want what they want and will stop at nothing to get it. They have no value for human life nor any empathy. They will exist at the public's expense and offer nothing to society.

I believe the judicial system in this country only protects the criminals and "their" rights and to hell with the victims. I really find it repugnant that on occasions defendants are offered plea agreements for lesser charges and sentences. They should pay the maximum penalty applicable to the crime committed.

I agree, Easygoing, that it was a pleasure to read comments made in such a civil manner. Interesting discussion without the usual name calling and one-upmanship.

I personally went through the closing of a manufacturing facility as the plant manager's assistant where the production was sent to Mexico. It was devastating to the plant employees. There needs to be some strategizing of ways to bring back jobs to the US. Perhaps offering major tax incentives to corporations to make it worthwhile to them to bring their businesses back. I do believe that for a period of time, workers must not expect wages that will accommodate their extravagant life styles so many of us have come to expect.

Use to be that people worked hard and saved and maybe by the time they reached their late 40's or so, they had a nice home, car and comfortable life style. Today, people in their 20's expect to have four bedroom homes, two cars and all the electronics they desire. No more working until you can afford things. Basically a society of self-entitlement.

One of the things that depresses me the most about manufacturing and business going overseas is the quality of the products. When the textile manufacturing was here, the quality was outstanding. Now, it all says "made in China" and you are lucky if things last a year. Things have become disposable.

My feeling is if you can't be trained, then do not use a gun. Should people go out and drive a car with no instruction? Should someone fly a plane without training? There are other ways of protecting yourself. Take some self-defense training. Many martial arts folks teach basic self-defense. I took six months of martial arts training specifically for the purpose of protecting myself as I lived in a big city. I also had four dogs. Thieves want an easy target. If they hear multiple dogs barking, they will move on.

Remember folks, times are different now. Being told to just "stand up for yourself" can be a dangerous stance. Today, the bully might just pull a gun and blow you away! The schools definitely need to be proactive and take a hard line on bullying. I sometimes wonder if it might not be a good idea to issue a warning that bullying by students will result in fines for the parents. Maybe that would finally make these parents deal with their children. It seems hitting the old pocketbook seems to work in many instances.

jrt5903, I agree that unless someone is thoroughly trained in the use of a gun, they can end up having the gun taken away and injured or killed with their own gun. It seems many love to "talk big" about having a gun and how they will use it, but if it came down to it, they would hesitate too long or be overtaken by the perpetrator. Also, for example, as to the perpetrators of crimes, just look at the Fayetteville paper and all the crime articles (especially of robberies and drug charges) and see who the criminals are. Can't deny what is. People can claim racism, but the facts are the facts.

Seven minutes? More like 17 minutes depending on the time you come to the circle. I live near the circle and many times have to go to Page Road and go towards the village and do the left turn on 2 to be able to go south on 15/501. Many times the cars are backed down 15/501 north almost to No. 6. Also, many people come flying into the circle going about 40 mph plus. Have almost gotten smashed more times than I can count. Then there are those wonderful people that know what lane they have to be in coming up to the circle at either 15/501 or Midland, but are unwilling to wait in line and cut across the large white line and bumps and cut into the circle illegally. That circle is a disaster area!

My Christmas cactus is about ten years old and started blooming in November. It has bloomed beautifully this year after a few years of blooming very little. I think they need to rest for a good while before producing a spectacular blooming.

"just remember that being a conservative doesn't make you a self-centered bigoted idiot, being a self-centered bigoted idiot makes you conservative."

MisterG, what a ridiculous comment. It seems some of you find it absolutely necessary to "label" folks. I am neither "conservative" nor "liberal." I am a free thinker that uses common sense and logic. Period. Some of you seem to feel it necessary to call names and assume that your opinion is the "only" opinion and if other don't agree, the name calling commenses. What a waste of time and energy.

It is too bad that informative and "polite" exchanges cannot be expressed on these blogs without resorting to one-upmanship and name calling.

The early immigrants to this country came openly and did what was required to become citizens. They did not come through underground tunnels and locked in the back of trucks so as not to be detected. The hispanics wish to come here, but refuse to learn the language or do whatever is necessary to become citizens legally. I would think that the early immigrants would be disgusted at the thought of a blanket amnesty and citizenship to all the illegals after they followed the legal path to citizenship.

I lived for several years in Texas and saw firsthand the behavior of the illegals. They seem to think the US owes them something. I feel sorry for anyone living somewhere that keeps them from a happy life. However, the US is not the "mama" of the world and we cannot be expected to take care of everyone that is unhappy with their life situation. We don't take care of our own people. How many of our children live in poverty and don't have enough food? Sometimes we seem to be more concerned about what is happening other places instead of our own backyard.

I would. I lived in Dallas, TX and that is traffic! However, the traffic moved. With the way the traffic circle backs up, you can't even get in line to get to the circle.
