County Board Rejects Solar Farm Plans
Here's the second mind boggler: On the same site, scroll down past the minutes and find a memo dated April 17 from Debra Ensminger, Planning & Community Development Director, prepared by one of her staff that offers the history of the solar issue, etc. You will note under one section that she references the fact that the utility commission mandates a gradual trend toward incorporating solar energy into the supply for electricity - including the growing scale - followed by the fact that the utility companies may buy that power from in state solar providers or out of state providers or THEY MAY BUILD THEIR OWN solar farms. Continue on...you will see that the planning goals of the Moore Cty Planning Board clearly includes provisions for best land use, etc. so that means that they are under an obligation to do what is best for the landowner and the county's residents. Continue on...you will see that it is her informed opinion and recommendation that the amendment be approved by the planning board and forwarded to the Cty Commissioners to be added to ordinances (or whatever the term is). That was as of 4/17/13, added later to the minutes of the April 9 meeting where the discussion took place with Mr. Hartman. SO - something happened between April 9 - 17 and the rejection of the solar farm amendment and request to build on May 9 ---the question is WHAT? Nothing in the Q&A period of April 9 indicated they would reject it - What happened? Of course the final discussion took place on May 9, so we won't know what that amounted to until they are posted, which won't be until after they are approved at the June meeting. You might also find it noteworthy that Hayter contributed $1800 to McCrory's campaign in 2012 and $200 to Jamie Boles. Further, Pat Corso gave $500 to McCrory, which is interesting, because all his prior contributions in NC were to Democrats. You can find the contribution by Googling "follow the money" - can look it all up by contributor or candidate in any state. Nice site for info like this when strange things like rejecting a solar farm happen. Best thing to do is call Debra Ensminger Planning & Community Development Director and ask her what is going to happen next. The planning board is appointed by the Cty Commissioners, which also tells you something. Happy reading - it's clear as mud to me!

County Board Rejects Solar Farm Plans
If you want some interesting reading on this subject, go to this site: http://www.moorecountync.gov/webfiles/Planning/Projects/Planning%20Board/Agenda/2013/2013-05-09%20-%20Planning%20Board%20Packet.pdf You will find at the beginning, the proposed agenda for the May 9 meeting (the minutes for this meeting where the solar farm was denied have not been posted yet), but continue scrolling down until you come to the part about solar farms. This is the meeting where the rep came to answer questions. Read thru those, and pay close attention to Hayter's questions about funding. As you will see, there was nothing in the entire discussion with Mr. Hartman, the solar rep, that indicated a negative reaction from any member of the planning board. I'm going to post another site you should read in just a sec. This planning board's action is clearly outside their duty to provide beneficial land use for owners and residents of the county. I'll post the next eye opener in just a sec.

Democrats Won Battle of the Conventions
More than likely, it can be honestly said that the GOP accomplished its convention goal: to go after the undecided voters, the independents, those who could not make up their minds and convince them on how they should vote. Judging by the polls since both conventions ended, the GOP did what they intended - those undecideds have moved into President Obama's court! After the secret video debacle of yesterday, I'll bet they are super glad they did! But, some people never learn to consider facts - living in a dream world is much easier. Ask youself: Am I part of that 47% that Romney doesn't care about? And then tell us why he should be president.

Comeback Patriots Win Again in Jayvee Action
What a great ball club to watch play football. Their white-knuckle antics are thrillers for the fans, but they are more than that - they are a true show of HEART! This sort of comback ability is what a real TEAM is made of - I'm proud to be a fan, a supporter and grandma to a player. GO PATRIOTS!!

Patriot Jayvees Defeat Jack Britt in Five OTs
@Courseaire: I understand your point about more playing time increasing the chance of injury, which is always there no matter how long any sports game is - regulation play or not. BUT, this particular game showed so much more about these kids, these coaches and the game of football. If you had been there to witness how the whole stadium reacted to the Pinecrest performance, you would, I think, have realized how a few minutes of playing time can show so much of a kid's determination and drive, not for himself, but for his team, his school and his future! That, my friend, has no price! I hope you will come to a game sometime and be caught up in their world - even if you only stay for the regulation period. IT WAS AWESOME!!

Patriot Jayvees Defeat Jack Britt in Five OTs
@RD: it was a white-knuckle piece of football and a great example of what the Pinecrest coaching staff has taught a great group of kids. It was so impressive to see how cohesive they are - three football teams all participating at the same time in a show of support - the freshmen players were selling programs and raffle tickets, the jv team was playing, and the varsity guys were cheering them on...if this doesn't teach team spirit and community participation, nothing does. We should be thankful that these kids are given this opportunity to learn sportsmanship, team spirit and how to persevere. Yes, it was a great way to start the season and end a 12-year losing streak to Jack Britt. I commend them all, and I hope that our community will come out and see these exciting games.

Occupiers Seem Their Own Worst Enemies
It's interesting to read what people say about the hippies when they didn't live through that time. If only you could know how open society was back then, how free one felt to speak their mind without someone personally attacking them, how the wealth was much more balanced, how one person would actually help another without having to get a tax deduction for doing so, how families spent time with each other, and, most importantly, how transparent our gov't was compared to today. Maybe it would serve us all well to start a New Hippie Generation...in the end, we want the same things today that we hippies wanted back then..."life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"...

'Occupy' Organizers Reassure Downtown SP Merchants
Ya know...the whole college loan system IS a disaster, and people HAVE been saddled with enormous debt and little lucrative job opportunities. But, the solution could be very simple if we had the right people in DC - legislators who give a rat's >>> about this and other issues. How hard would it be to let people with college loans refinance them??? Isn't that what it will take to fix the mortgage/foreclosure/housing problems? Sometimes, we have to go backwards in order to move forward. So what if the Big Banks lose a little interest income from refinancing student loans...best I can tell, they've made enormous profits this year; why not return some of that to students? Further, the OBS group is on target; they represent what brave people do in times of frustration, unrest and a common need - they exercise the right to protest. Shame on those of us who aren't willing to do the same, especially those who resort to name calling and disrespect of another's right to an opinion. And, justmyopinion, I can't let your nasty reference to Snooky's name go unchecked...you should use "an" to precede a vowel sound ("s" in this case) versus "a," and you should realize how brightly your true colors shine when you mount a personal attack such as this. Shame, shame!

What Our Local 'Occupy' Event Is About
Moonchild...I, too, remember those days and the reasons for protests. Probably, if it hadn't been for those days, we would still have the draft. Remember people like Norman Mailer who spoke out so effectively, much like Michael Moore today. The big difference in then and now is that so many of the people are passionate about certain issues, albeit often uninformed about them. They don't know how to step to the podium in an effective debate or research an issue in order to determine the real from the fake. Worst of all, they temper everything with disgust and hate for others, always failing to recognize there is ALWAYS two sides to a story, ALWAYS anothr opinion, and ALWAYS room for comprise. This type of attitude/behavior is at the root of the unrest in our wonderful country; I'm shocked, saddened and ashamed to find the same right in my own back yard. Thank heavens that I've lived long enough to know that the good ALWAYS outweighs the bad, and that the worst of us is usually the smallest in number. I applaud the effort and tenacity of those that have arranged this OBS opportunity, and I intend to do everything I can to support them. If any of you naysayers want to show your face at the event, I'm the white haired lady with the bronze-colored cane...please introduce yourself as you drop your can of food in the Food Bank doation box.
