I'm well aware of the capabilities of Pope AFB and that it serves the landing/take-off function for Washington dignitaries as it did for the recent visit by that other vagabond traveler from Plains, GA. My post was more to emphasize the cost we taxpayers incur to shuttle Barack the Golfer to his luxury sporting events.
Mr. Smith, surely you jest!!!! After all, unless the Moore County airport runway is expanded, there's no conceivable way that Air Force One, Marine One, the transport plane with Obama's 12 armored vehicles and SUV's, the trailing 747 with 82 members of the WH staff, six doctors, four chefs, and the liberal press corps could possibly make a convenient landing and trip into Pinehurst. Oh, and Michele and the girls would likely dominate the Spa, inconveniencing hotel guests. Not a good idea.
Let me see if I understand this. Whispering Pines and Foxfire are on the block and the Pit has gone under. Several other local clubs are hanging on by their fingernails. Membership and rounds played are down by double digit percentages across the region. Yet, developers are bullish about adding multiple new courses to the west and northwest of Pinehurst. Hmmm. What's wrong with this picture. Moore County Board - let's see if you understand this better than me.
Couldn't agree more!!!! Typical politician's reaction - pull from one pocket today, tax the other tomorrow. [Maybe no one will notice -or, we can blame it on previous commissioners.] If a fat cat can afford to fly his Lear directly to Pinehurst, does anyone really believe he won't pay a higher landing/arrival fee? It's an incidental cost to the flyer, but an irresponsible additional burden to put on the back of the taxpayers.
Mr. Boesch, as did others at the recent hearing, makes excellent points that need to be addressed. However, without any apparent permission he drags with him the weight of his neighbors by noting "There is significant concern within Pinewild ....". I applaud Mr. Boesch for stating his personal concerns publicly, but he should more properly leave his neighbors out of it. Too many fine Pinewild residents were unfairly labeled as "obstructionist" or "selfish" due simply to the fact of their Pinewild addresses when Mr. Boesch led the contentious legal challenges over annexation. Our new neighbors in Pinewild can certainly speak for themselves - individually - and Mr. Boesch should respect that.
For assistance with clothing, etc. try the Sandhills Coalition for Human Care in Southern Pines. As to the insensitive comment by TooHot, get a life, Pal - and "there but for the grace of God ......" You should be ashamed.
Why are you early posters assuming this is a mother/son combo? There's nothing in the article that identifies them as mother and son. That notwithstanding, whichever (or both) was dealing drugs should be prosecuted. But can't we do something other than put them in a slammer to vegitate on our tax dollars - why not something productive like cleaning roadsides, park maintenance, city or county office building maitenance, etc.? That won't rehabilitate them any more than 90 days in the can, but at least we get something of benefit from them rather than serving them like pigs at the public trough. Bah, humbug.
Ms. Hagan won election in 2008 because Ms. Dole's complacency and misguided witchcraft ad soured voters. To say, as did Steve, that she has "no clue" is charitable at best. She doesn't know where to look for clues beyond the majority leader's office and, when he hopefully gets the boot from Nevadans, we only need to wait another four years to send Ms. Clueless packing. Until then she's probably harmless. I hope.
Builders and developers will complain about anything and everything when given the opportunity. As the Mayor has aptly noted, Pinehurst standards are higher than many communities and were established over a long period of time based on community expectations of excellence. Those standards protect property values and are essential to maintaining the aesthetics of the Village. If the builders don't like them, I would suggest they take their crews and build elsewhere. The quality builders will remain and, once again, the wheat will have been separated from the chaff. As for hiring consultants to advise us - poppycock!! It is unnecessary and wasteful of our tax dollars.

@expatriate: No and no, to your questions. I repeat, get a life, or find some other hobby to consume your infantile and immature outlook on life.
