tarheelborn - you're up early this AM and apparently haven't had your meds yet. Might be a good idea. And for the rest of you naysayers, is there anything any elected body in this village, county, or state could ever do that fits your definition of responsibility? Get a life, please.
Mea culpa. Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa. Toda is correct; it was not appropriate that I referred to him as a "jerk" earlier in this blog. Now with the benefit (???) of having read his follow-on drivel, I amend my description of him to simply delusional. Further, my suggestion that he "get a life" meant he (and the community of readers) would be better served by his not taking cheap shots at our hospitalized Congressman but concentrating on issues that matter.
Toda - frankly, you're a jerk. My comment to you as to your character may not comport with the spirit of the Christmas season, but your post was totally uncalled for. I may not always agree with the Congressman either, but to post as you did when the gentleman is hospitalized is in poor taste if not insulting to him and all that read it. Get a life, please.
To Easygoing and ztech: Get a life, please. Nearly 1,800 residents thought enough of Mark Parson's qualifications and past service record to vote for him. The voices of those 1,800 surely drown out the wimpering of you few (I'm certain there are some others out there that didn't get "their way") who will now do nothing but complain for the next four years. After all, doing something constructive is difficult; better you sit back and sling arrows - right?
Re: Dusty's comment about the OWS twits outliving us. I think not, Mr. Rhoades. When the tattoo ink eventually poisons their blood systems, or the meth fries their brains, or the dysentery from their unsanitary existence weighs in, or - the real root cause - their EBT cards run dry, we'll still be sipping our scotches by the fireplace. And we'll still be smiling. Illegitimi non carborundum.
I don’t recall the ad you refer to in the Pilot, but I did see a communication from the “Concerned Citizens of Pinehurst” that sets forth what seems to be an agenda and platform. Is this the Pinehurst PAC (political action committee) you referenced? If so, do you know if any candidates have (in your words) “chosen to follow the lead of this small group of well-funded PAC originators”.
The root of the (nation's) problems is that the "average homeowner" incurred a $300,000 mortgage on a home he could not afford and, when his job was lost, the tax advantage was meaningless. Thanks to Wall Street, Ginnie and Freddie, those that lost their jobs and homes now scream "class warfare" when they should be looking in the mirror. Caveat emptor.
Mr. Alvarez' letter, with which I totally concur, speaks to and supports the work of the Pinehurst PD. You now write of wanting to exert control over the police since "many of them do not have the judgment or wisdom needed for the job" and "who display actions that are blatantly illegal .....". The examples you next offer refer to HIGHWAY PATROLMEN. What's wrong with this picture??? Highway patrolmen do not daily or directly protect and serve the residents of this community - the Pinehurst PD does. If you're going to throw stones, please throw them in the right direction and offer an apology to the fine men and women of the Pinehurst PD you have besmirched by wrongful reference.
Ross - do your homework before you spout off. The program was passed by a Democratic Congress over the strong objections of the Republican minority who voiced repeated concerns over the cost and necessity of yet another government give-away.
See the post below by moonchild7. Our benificent government has seen to it that every American deserves a cell phone. Sort of like when FDR promised a "chicken in every pot". Gotta' love the Democrats for what they've wrought.
