I have to agree with Mr. Heim. Adults should be held accountable when loaded guns fall into a child's hands with deadly results.

But Mr. Heim seems to think that it is a trade off of lives. Those who are killed by guns and those who are saved by guns. Who is more important?

That is a decision I would not want to make.

If there is a practical solution to this problem, I want some to someone to give it.

For once I have to agree with Dusty Rhoades. The news media abuses the responsibility given it under the First Amendment. If they can't verify the information they will claim a confidential source which they don't have to produce because of various shield laws.

While we tear apart the Second Amendent maybe we should take a long look at tearing apart the First Amendment.

Do we now say if you lose your property to Mother Nature your tough luck?

To Jim Heim,

Would you feel better if he had used a shotgun? ( IE Stewart at Pinelakes) I frown on any weapon used other than its lawful purpose.

If we are going to toy with the Second Amendent then amend it like our forefathers envisioned. They knew that they could not know what the future held so they set up a process for amendments to change with the times. But let it be known I am not in favor of taking guns from honest people.

The main catch phrase since this arguement started was " If guns are outlawed only outlaws will have them."

When you can come up with an idea to get the guns from the badguys then maybe people won't feel the need to have so many.

theoldguy,

Would be different if the weapon used was a plain old non military weapon? I don't think so. Would we still having this conversation? Yes.

There is no answer to stop tragedies such as this. If not a gun they would just use something else. Knife, IED( just think of the body count there) or anything their mind could come up with.

Fugitive guy.

I have a feeling that if the alternative was little kids being slaughtered the majority of us could rise to the challenge. Unlike some would have us to believe, there would be no celebratory dance afterwards. Just profound relief of a tragedy averted.

That may be, but do you want a well meaning amatuer who might see a firing range once a year who accidentally kills an innocent bystander trying to take out the bad guy. To be ready to go into a combat mode on a second's notice from a caring mode takes a special person.

Also if that person takes some out will they be ready to become a target if someone comes looking for revenge?

A lot goes into a idea like this when a person accepts this awesome responsibility.

The framers of the Constitution wrote it for their time. They made the Constitution to be amended as the times changed. The Thirteenth Amendent ended the Constitutionally protected practice of slavery. Other Amendments Brought about women voting. the 18 year old vote, a ban on alcoholic beverages and the repeal of it.

But I find myself agreeing with Dusty arming teachers is not the answer. It takes a special breed of person to look down a gun barrel at another human being and pull the trigger with the intent of taking that persons life.

If there is to be a change to the Second Amendment it must be through the amendment process.

Anything less makes the rest of the Constitution a target for a change on a whim. There is no way I see to stop the lone gunman set on on such an act.
