Why the Difference?
Jim, you are right. Gas prices in Moore county average around .30 cents more per gallon than in neighboring counties. The standard answer that most station owners give me for the higher prices is, "This is a resort area and we can get higher prices." However, I asked one female store owner why prices are so much higher here and she replied, "I know, I am going to drop my prices even though I know the other owners will give me hell. This statement told me that owners are conspiring to keep prices artificially high in Moore county. This is against the Sherman Antitrust laws and we should all file a complaint with Roy Cooper, the NC State Attorney General at: http://www.ncdoj.gov/getdoc/59be4357-41f3-4377-b10f-3e8bd532da5f/Complaint-Form.aspx
The more of us that file a complaint, the more likely we will get fair gas prices in Moore County.
