@DingoMike: You didn't notice that Dusty didn't have to use satire. He just has to point out what is obvious. Read the other columns today. The NC General Assembly is a JOKE!
Even the retired editorial cartoonist from the N&O The N&O’s former cartoonist just couldn’t sit out this legislative session, not with all the fun things to draw.
As Dusty pointed out in a previous column, the drama between the various factions of the Republican Party is the best entertainment going.
More than a few of us have noticed the irony in the Republican Party wanting more and more to intrude into our private lives while playing less and less attention to jobs and the economy.
There is no doubt that the essence of the Republican Jihad truly is that “as soon as they get in, it’s all about the radical right-wing social and theocratic agenda.” However, just as it is in any Jihad movement, without a common enemy, the Jihadists cannot agree among themselves.
The Raleigh News & Observer reports today:
Now at the halfway mark, momentum in the N.C. General Assembly has slowed. Last session Republicans in both houses had a common enemy with Gov. Perdue. Now, without a common enemy, each house is now trying to establish their pre-eminence over the other.
Geoffcutler "questions like: what possible reason is there for civilians ownership of firearms on par with the military? become irrelevant."
You can't choose anything you want in North Carolina because North Carolina restricts fully automatic weapons except for soldiers, law enforcement, and merchants with a permit who need them to defend their business.[
It is absolute ignorance of the U.S. Constitution to think that the right of people to keep and bear arms will be infringed by placing limits on the types of arms and ammunition.
Gatlin guns, machine guns, shoulder-held grenade launchers or any rapid-fire, high-impact weapon do not belong in the hands of anyone who ‘needs’ such things to enhance their image of themselves.
Mr. Levy, You, Sarah Palin, and Rush Limbaugh and the CPAC have pretty much destroyed the Grand Old Party. Don’t place hope on the “new blood.” Until the Republican can play a partner roll in the government of the United States, it has no role except to obstruct.
The quality programs presented on PBS are primarily informative or cultural entertainment. Regular listeners provide most of the funding, but federal grants are necessary. Why? Because programs focusing on arts and culture strengthen American values and help preserve our heritage and history.
On its website (www.nga.org) the National Governors Association states:
"Arts and culture are important to state economies. Arts and culture-related industries provide direct economic benefits to states and communities: They create jobs, attract investments, generate tax revenues, and stimulate local economies through tourism and consumer purchases. These industries also provide an array of other benefits, such as infusing other industries with creative insight for their products and services and preparing workers to participate in the contemporary workforce. In addition, because they enhance quality of life, the arts and culture are an important complement to community development, enriching local amenities and attracting young professionals to an area.
Governors increasingly recognize the importance of the creative sector to their states’ economy and ability to compete in the global marketplace."
Other than Rush, the Fox Hate Mongers, or some simple-minded Tea Party thingy, who has claimed the the government is going to confiscate anything?? Certainly no politician--Democrat or Republican. [No, the Tea Party faux politicians do not count. Actually, they don't know how to count.]
