So now Chris Smithson wants to start taxing church properties!! He clearly said it in this article, I'm sure he'll come up with some lame logic.

I don't think I have ever seen such a condesening letter from a state employee to a newspaper! Under whose direction was this made? An undersecretary of the DOT has the authority to challenge a sitting elected official? I hope we have a new Governor so Mr. Vaden can be relegated to operating a shovel at the NCDOT!

What they have done is technically unconstitutional, you can not deny any legal business zoning, you can make it hard, but it still must be allowable.

I'm glad for Aberdeen and for Mr. Davenport, but if it's such a great deal, let him spend his money!! These programs are part of a bigger picuture, FAILURE of our government. Take in 2 Trillion a year, Spend 3 Trillion a year. Borrow from the Chinese so Mr. Davenport doesn't have to bear the full risk of his business decision.

Nice, we as taxpayers get taxed, then the government then turns around and gives it to someone else to reopen a failed business. Nice economics. It costs us $25,000 per proposed job, NICE

I think the tax assesor should put this article in his file and raise his tax valuation to $750,000 since he says it's worth it.

Moonchild, arrogance on your part is not becoming. FYI, newbies don't need to be taught anything, the only thing they need to know is that their opinion will be as valid as anyone else's, and the fact that as of today, gay marriage is not legal in North Carolina, and the SCOTUS has not reviewed any challenge to the law.

I don't care what people do in their bedrooms, don't cram your agenda down my throat, and if Mr. Cathy has an opinion, he is entitled to it!

Moonchild, you are wrong on your analysis of Loving. Loving was never, and has yet to be determined by the courts, that gay marriage is covered under the Loving case.
The case was argued on the sole basis of interracial marriage, and any wording in the decision is couched in that fact. There was never an argument as to gay marriage, and most legal scholars have yet to make the connection between Loving and gay marriage, if they had then gay marriage would be the law of the land, which it is not.

I assume you are also in favor of banning political spending by unions.

Moonchild, with all due respect, the rise in healthcare cost has been astonishing, and the driving factor is ObamaCare! I am 45, wife same age and two teenage kids. Health Insurance $1,400 per month, ObamaCare, Pricless. I don't have an employer that subsidizes, I am self employed.

What ObamaCare has done will continue to drive HealthInsurance costs up. The so called "taxes" go to the government, but those with pre-existing conditions will wait until they need the care, then buy the insurance, or Adverse Selection.

Remove lifetime caps on coverage, actuarial rates go up. Politicians Lie (Obama "it's not a tax") but numbers don't.

Obamacare has not really addressed anything about the high cost of medical care, as compared to medical insurance. Legal reform would have been a great start, how many tests and labs are prevent for the doctor to CYA for liability?

In the end Justice Roberts has given us this new persepective, it's not the SCOTUS's job to protect us from our lousy elected officials. They argued in court they had the power to tax, and they do now with a huge expanse.
