Pilot to Buy The Country Bookshop
PLEASE do not put in couches, WiFi and a coffee shop. There are plenty of places to get coffee in that area of town and couches would only take up room where more bookshelves could be. The Country Bookshop is perfect as is. All of those extras would just take away from the experience of being totally immersed in literature.

Vikings Participate in D.C. Parade
@ ASU88 Are you an idiot or just blind? The front page of the pilot had a huge picture and a story. Buy a paper and stop spreading false information that everyone else blindly follows. Everyone is proud of the marching band so get over yourself! Excuse the vitriol but you brought it on yourself with your sarcastic and false ranting.

Your stories are always my favorite, in The Pilot and in PineStraw. (Missed your column in PineStraw last month!)

Small Town Girls Living Their Dream
I go to Swank for coffee every morning and also bought a few items from their shop as gifts. They are two of the most genuine and nice people I have ever met. Also, Cactus Creek coffee, which is the brand they serve, in my opinion is the best coffee in the county...maybe even all of NC.

Actions of S.P. Police Violate Our Basic Rights
I witnessed Southern Pines police tazer a man repeatedly while he begged for mercy. They kept screaming at him to show his hands but two 200+ pound men were kneeling on top of him and his hands were trapped under his body. So then he would try to free his hands and they would scream at him to stop resisting. I saw them tazer him at least three times and then brutally throw him around to handcuff him. Finally an older gentlemen approached the cops and told them to settle down. What was the man's crime...he stole a cheap pair of shoes. While I don't think anyone should be allowed to steal I really think that the police involved in this incidence were out of line. It was a frightening thing to witness and left me and the others that witnessed it quite shaken.

SI Swimsuit Issue Features Local Woman
I would just like to say that as a young woman I have no problem with sexuality or nudity, I also have no problem with this model. I do think that cmonalready and kgirl are overgeneralizing a bit with their comments. Obviously, children can't be shielded from everything, and open and frank discussions are a necessity. I just think that the news media should be held to a higher standard than featuring naked women from SI. SI is not claiming to be an artistic publication so please don't give me the "this is art" schtick.

SI Swimsuit Issue Features Local Woman
Did you seriously put a picture of a naked woman on the front page of the pilot website? (That is just paint covering her, so yes she is naked.) As a grown woman I have no problem seeing this and tuning it out (considering I'm lambasted almost constantly with pictures of sexualized and idealized women by the media). But to put it on the front page of a website where a young girl can see it is reckless and in poor, poor taste. Give our young women a chance to form positive self-images by shielding them from these types of images for as long as possible. Shame on you.
