I do not post often, however for this thread I feel I would like to share something. For those parents who are having to console children at home who are being bullied, please go back and review the polices that the school system has on this topic and hold them accountable. If your school has a no bullying policy or a zero tolerance policy, do not stop fighting until you get results. That will not unfortunately change the mental frustration that your child feels, however, you are the one that can stand up for your child when no one else will listen. Please do not stop until you get answers. I applaud the anti bullying initiatives that are being started around the county, but if your own school system won't help with this, I am not sure how strong these initiatives will be.

Please accept my sympathies for you and your family. I can remember many times that my child would come home from school speaking of Kyran, wearing a dog sticker, and a badge sticker from when you visited his school. It was by far the highlight of his day. We would then see you and Kyran at community events and he would be so excited to know so much about you and Kyran. It was wonderful to see first hand the impact your dog made on my son. Thank you Sgt. Williams for your devotion and love for your canine companion. May the happiness he brought to you and your family remind you of your special friend. RIP Kyran.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those who have been touched in more ways than one with this recent tragedy. My question as a Moore County resident is..."Who's to say it will never happen here"? We have issues in our school every day that are often brushed under the table because we do not want to ruin a child's record or it was classified as a joke. What happened to zero tolerance and the need to be vigilant? We should put the accountability back on the students and those adults involved with them. If a child threatens to hurt another student with any weapon or bullies them in any way...stop babying them and make them realize the severity of their actions. The accountability is not there not even in our own school system where many of us send our children everyday. Think about how close one of our schools is to a prison for goodness sakes. Zero Tolerance means Zero Tolerance.....go back to teaching a lesson by really teaching a child what happens when you make a horrendous statement or threaten someone! If they were held accountable, maybe, just maybe it would make someone else think. BTW drugs are illegal and they can be found by anyone who wants them, yes even in our quaint community. Gun control not necessarily the answer, if the want them they will get them, yes even in our quaint little community.

What a terrible thing someone did. Another example as to how our society has few morals and lacks the ability to be strong citizens! Disgraceful!!

I am sad to hear this news. He was a great asset to our community. I hope that we can find someone who is as willing to work with our community and to help make our community a great place to be. I do hope that we are caution and work to ensure that we hire the right person to run the department.

****Please fix error with "yers" to "years"

Wow, we seem to be missing the boat on Tillman's ideals. No tenure for teachers, ok, dismissal of teachers as Superintendent deems, with no reason needed nor a hearing required by the school board, hmmmm.....let's see would this then make the who you know, more important than the what you know? Will teachers be dismissed because someone knows someone who needs a job? How will This work? Teacher Corp, any one with a Batchelor's degree in any area can teach....really? Not sure that is the case. What about Merit pay? Ok, pay teachers for "growth" and if they tutor after school, and if they are in hard to staff contents, what about the collaboration we need to help meet each child's needs, merit pay will fuel competittion between teachers. We should not forget to mention that in his bill he wants to hold parents accountable for their child's ability to read and sign a contract as to what they will do at home to help their child, ok.....we tried this.....since he is a former administrator surely he remembers the "contracts" we had for benchmark grade levels of 3 and 5 where parents signed a paper stated if their child did not pass certain requirements, they were retained.....well let's see how did that work.....ummm not so well it no longer exists. Come on Tillman....NC just spent a great deal of money on an evaluation process that you are about to throw out and who will you get to teach our children? We will have a difficult time finding anyone who wants to teach, knowing that they are not in a job that may be there tomorrow.....Get that teaching corp ready, you will need everyone who is graduating with any Batchelor's degree to fill the positions of those "highly qualified" teachers you will lose due to this bill. By the way, Thank you for being appreciative of the job those teachers do everyday, from nurturing, teaching, listening, engaging, and making a difference...It is Teacher Appreciation Week. I would like to submit a bill that allows the voters to vote you out of office Tillman for no reason other than I believe you did not work hard enough to get a bill passed or shake enough hands. Oh and let us place merit pay status on our politicians....hmmm not voting the way we tell you....no pay check.....not balancing a budget, no pay check.....bet Tillman would not like that!

I believe that we all can say, that we are not happy nor do we condone the behaviors that took place. However, I too, like many others believe that how the board handled the firing of Paterno was ubsurd. Are any of us willing to lose our job because the supervisor we have did not do their job. How do we know that any of us could have been in that situation. In some professions, it is considered insubordination to question the actions or lack of them to superiors. If he followed his chain of command and was still fired for it, should we all now question our bosses. Hmm, a lot more unemployeed people I bet we would see.
