The writer is absolutely correct; however his point is also absolutley irrevelant. A machine that makes copies is a Xerox, even if it is made by Ricoh. A tissue is a Kleenex, even if it is a Scott brand.

A semi-automatic rifle, with a black plastic stock, a short barrel and a pistol grip that resembles an M-4, is an assault weapon, even though it not an automatic weapon that has been banned for many years.

Even the original federal Assault Weapons Ban law applied to these semi-automatic weapons, not true assault rifles.

But it doesn't matter. Like Xerox and Kleenex, anythnig that looks like a military style assault rifle is an assault weapon to 99 % + of the population.

So you should find a different argument.

Notwithstanding the past historical connection with Moore County and the current water supply connection with Moore County, the fact is that only about 2 square kilometers of Camp Mackall is in Moore County. Most is in Scotland and some in Richmond County.

But an interesting presentation nonetheless.

Also, no mention in any articles of 18 year old women now being required to register with the Selective Service as their male counterparts have had to do since the end of the draft in 1973. Lets all be equal if we ever have to start a draft again.

Sorry TODA, can't tell if that is sarcasm or not.

If it is, they can fly the F-16 all the way to the site of the crash, and they can drive the Abrams very well in reverse.

If it is not, I'll provide a link.

" if they qualify with the same standards as men then why shouldn't they fight"

That will be the problem - maintaining the standards. If the standards are maintained and few women qualify, there will be pressure to either lower the standards or adopt a two-tiered set of standards. Or pressure to just pencil-whip the qualifications, as was reportedly done several years ago with the first female F-14 pilot, killed in a pilot-error crash.

The other problem will be in distracting physical relationships. If our generals can't keep their pants zipped in a combat zone, how can we expect the privates and LTs to do it?

Courseaire, the M-1 Abrams tank is a semi-automatic, that is it only fires one round at a time from the 120mm cannon. So you can have that one.

But the F-16 Falcon has a Vulcan 20mm cannon that is automatic, so you can't have that. Since it is automatic, it is technically an assault weapon

Marilyn Monroe at least was not a natural blonde, so maybe it should be called the "Bleached Blonde Tavern."

Trying to correct the improper usage of the term assault rifle is like spitting in the wind - it serves no purpose. It has been improperly used by so many people for so long that it is now commonly understood, if not accepted. As stated above, it is common English usage.

Just like the term 'shrapnel' . No one has been wounded by shrapnel in over 100 years, unless they dug up a Civil War era shrapnel round. But when you read about a shrapnel wound, you know they really mean bomb fragment or shell fragment.
