This is the only place in the area that I regularly see the small black squirrels mentioned in the article. Very different from the normal grey squirrels seen everywhere else in the Sandhills.
Dr. Spence said no, plain and simple. The Senior Class President needs to learn how to take no for an answer. She submitted two names, and despite the fact that the school doesn't have guest speakers, the Principal asked them anyway. They both said no. So she goes to the paper in a misguided attempt to leave some type of legacy or affect some type of 'change'. She would have been better off asking the Seniors to do community service or donate to a local charity if she wants to make a difference.
There's no conspiracy here, at least not on the part of Joel County.
The users of the basketball courts need to realize that those courts are a priviledge and not a right. As I walk by the courts, I am constantly appalled by the trash that is left behind by the players. The downtown park is generally a nice place, but the trashy courts and teenagers smoking cigarettes on the swingsets give it a trashy appearance.
The appearance committee needs to be concerned about more than Broad St. The neighborhoods west of Broad St., North of Pennsylvania and East of US 1 look like the trailer park from '8 Mile' with the weight benches in the front yards and the old cars up on blocks. Every time I drive through there I swear I can hear the theme song to The Jeffersons.
Hopefully the next time the Airport has an extra $144,000.00 just laying around it will either put it >aside for a rainy day need, or use it to fund some always needed capital improvements
If the money is 'just laying around' isn't it already set aside for a rainy day?
The fact is that the airport is in the Aviation business. That business consists of providing aviation related services, such as fuel, maintenance, hangar space, and flight training. If the airport manager felt that they needed a new piece of equipment to try and improve that business that's his decision to make. If he's wrong then he will pay for it in ways ranging from losing money to being terminated. It's the way business works.
