Mythreekids....I agree, the coarsening of our society has caused our morality to decline. From fractured families to the Hollywood influence on our juvenile pop culture we have done a terrible disservice to our youth! As a famous "Toon" once said,"We have meant the enemy and it is us".

...if Mr. Zimmerman discovered a cure for cancer would he be described as a "white" Hispanic? I doubt it.

Dusty, I wear a hoodie from time to time but I am certain I don't instill fear in anyone. So why does a hoodie on a young black male have the opposite effect?

JER, you made some good points. The question that needs to be asked, by all concerned, is why a young black male wearing a "hoodie" is considered suspicious and/or untrustworthy? Unfortunately, certain clothing is associated with the "gangsta" lifestyle. Is this fair? Hell no. Is it reality, sad to say yes. The message perceived is the message received. About 25 or 30 years ago Jesse Jackson was walking the streets of Washington D.C. at night when he heard foot steps behind him. He admitted that when he turned and saw that it was a white man he was relieved! Do you think the reverend was guilty of stereotyping ?

" that they can vote themselves largesse"

Alexander Fraser Tyler wrote "The Cycle of Democracy" in 1770. He states that a democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over lousy fiscal policy which is followed by a dictatorship. The average of the worlds great civilizations before they decline is 200 years. These nations have progressed in this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; from faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency back again to bondage
