Sheriff Lane Carter Will Retire May 1
Why does this job have to be a political one? Why do we have to appoint the next sheriff from the same political party? Shouldn't it go to a qualified person and not just someone who is a member of the same party? Does that mean that a county resident who is a member of the opposite party may not receive the same consideration as a citizen who is a member of the party in power if two crimes were committed at the same time? Is this what we've come down to? I would have thought fighting crime was in the best interest of everyone and not leaning towards decisions made by one political party. How sad we've become.

'More Mainstream': Tattoo Shop Makes Imprint on Downtown SP
I don't understand why this business is getting such a nice write up in the local newspaper when there are many other businesses that have opened and have not or in some cases "cannot", even after asking The Pilot for a small article, get such an elaborate write up about their new businesses. Is this some form apology due to guilt at work here for the resistance these new business merchants received while trying to find a location? If so, we should all hope for resistance among those who were nervous or intimidated.

Pinehurst Improvements Back on Track
Comments from the public "might taint the proceedings"? When elected officials stop listening to the people they are "supposed" to be representing, it is time to clean house and find representatives that will do just that...represent the people!!! The community will not forget the decisions forced upon them that go against their beliefs come election day! You will ruin this community with your destructive decisions based on one month of visitors in 2014!

His Death Leaves Big Paws to Fill for Owner, Foundation
Bob, I do not believe I would be able to express how deeply sorry I am to hear about Devon's passing. He was truly a most beautiful and gentle giant that you could not help but reach out and pet whenever you encountered him at various places around the county. I know the companionship he offered you was massive. I hope you can find a similar teammate in your next companion, but there will never be one like the first one. He was definitely a champion for MIRA's cause. I am a believer that he is waiting patiently over the Rainbow Bridge for the day when you two can walk together again. Thank you for the good work you and Devon have worked at for so long.

Pinehurst Man Faces Drug Charges
What about we start printing the Doctors who continue to prescribe these "prescription medicines" that are a large part of the problem? These pain management clinics are nothing more than legalized drug dealers. What happened to the idea of alternative methods to handling pain, the original thought behind "pain management clinics"?

Miller, Developer at Odds on Knollwood Partnership Claim
Sounds like a Progress Energy/Duke Power play to me. Go through the regulation process telling the regulators that Johnson will be in charge, which eased the regulators fears and the minute it passes, he "resigns by mutual agreement" and is out. LIES, LIES, LIES just to get what you want (or in this case need) to get the zoning passed. Does the Bell family really care about their credibility? Not after the money is in their pocket! They can buy credibility from the commissioners after this.

Walden Clarifies Stance on Horse Country Bypass
This area has over 30 golf courses between Pinehurst, Aberdeen and Southern Pines. I have not heard the DOT or Mr. Walden suggest we move the bypass through any of them. Think of the savings the DOT would recognize by not having to destroy thousands of trees to clear the right of way for paving. The golf courses have already done that for the DOT. I doubt this area would miss one or two golf courses. And if Mr. Walden doesn't believe that the horse community contributes as much to the county coffers as the golf community, I would suggest he do a little homework. The Foundation is the reason I chose this area when returning back to live in NC. It is a unique and precious commodity Moore County has, with very few areas in the entire country being able to say they have this type of asset. Obviously, Mr. Walden doesn't understand its draw to the area. Maybe Mr. Walden is too busy calculating his income on the sale to the DOT of his remaining 6 acres.

Heavy Rains Cause Flooding
This same office building floods year after year. Why can't something be done to correct the issue? You would think the insurance companies would be tired of paying for water extraction and repairs and that the businesses in this building would pick up and move to higher ground!

Pleas to Save U.S. 1 Trees Unsuccessful
Since we have another US Open on the way, I wonder which NCDOT employee's brother-in-law is getting the contract to replant all those crepe myrtles after the guard rail project has been completed?
