You claim you support property rights, but you insist on holding back your reason why we should not allow someone to build in accordance with the law.
Prometheus- If you say it is a matter of zoning and not a Constitutional issue you are proposing a ban on houses of worship, Churches, YMCA, Synagogues, Jewish Community Centers and Hindu Temples. I am not even sure that would be constitutional.
The simple fact, is this is private property and the owner wants to use it for a legal purpose. You cite zoning laws, but the zoning board in NYC (like any other jurisdiction) can not stop something because they don't like it. They must have a legal basis for opposing the application for zoning.
Again you put words in my mouth, you made a statement about bigotry that I never made. I think it is interesting you chose that word, after I described your behavior. (1) Ted Olson, Bush's Solicitor General who lost his wife on 9/11 as she was on the plane that hit the Pentagon has made numerous statements in support of the Islamic Center.
(2) Grover Norquist, Head of American's for Tax Reform, said it is wrong to politicize the Islamic Center.
(3) REPUBLICAN Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) came out in support of the Islamic Center.
Never heard anyone call these people a liberal but your entitled to your opinion.

Abusing Their Freedom
The pilgrims who came to this land had the freedom in Europe to worship as they "should" have.
Dissidents in the Soviet Union "should" have just kept their mouth shut and plowed the field.
Freedom is not the right to do what the majority, or a vocal minority, feels is right.
