Wonderful story. Yes, sitting on the porch was memorable. So was reading THE PROGRESSIVE FARMER MAGAZINE, drinking cool water from a dipper, listening to the radio when WPTF in Raleigh was the best, Gathering round the tv on Sundays for Ed Sullivan. Homemade ice cream was a real treat, & church socials.
I do appreciate my air conditioned house and not having to swat @ mosquitoes or gnats, my indoor plumbing, store bought ice cream (so many flavors) & a wide selection of radio or tv programs.
Do I want to go back?? No, but I sure would like for my children to experience 1 weekend of my childhood.
