i watched a lady this week use a ebt card. i walked out after her and watched her loading her groceries into a year old suv with chrome rims (that probably cost 4000 to 6000 dollars). what is sad about that incident is that she probably feels she is doing absolutely nothing wrong. the 3 small children she had with her will grow up also feeling they are doing nothing wrong by living off the taxpayers. it is an endless cycle with the sad point being it will never change until the requirements for public assistance change.
" personally i would like to see changes to the bill(s) that would insure that children do not suffer", well what do you call it when the children are living with a parent with a drug problem? is that not suffering?
careful pinehurst, one of the things tourists like about this area is the scenic beauty and old town charm. do you really want to mess with that? seems to me a parking garage anywhere downtown would be an eyesore???
i like to watch "the first 48" on a&e channel. it follows detectives through homicide investigations all over the country. i have noticed that, while investigating homicides in projects, no one is willing to talk to the police. so what do you do? how can you help a community that does not want to help itself? some of these murders are so senseless it is incredible.
FG, you were a late bloomer huh? i started working when i was 9, driving tractors, feeding hogs, chickens, , then going to school at 8:00am, man those were the days!!!
Jim, you failed to mention the democrats, who had the house and senate for 2 years, did nothing to repeal the 75 year mandate to pre-fund retiree benfits. we have chatted before on here that nothing was done those 2 years to give the postal service a chance to recover. I would like to see a constituitional ammendment that would not allow the feds to take a dime ever, from the postal service. this ammendment could also include a provision that does not allow the feds to bailout the service, with tax dollars, either in times that losses occur. as for mr potters retirement package you gotta count the deferred payments he will receive also!
sounds like you should have looked at your retirement benefit prior to taking your job to fg, we are hiring if you dont mine working a little! I have a college degree too, I am available for career counseling if you need it!
Mr Wolferman, Postmaster General Potter retired years ago and took his 11 million dollar retirement package with him. The new Postmaster General is Patrick Donahue. I have been a letter carrier for 27 years, I hear all the time about the "generous retirement benefits" i am suppose to get. It simply is not true. For 30 years of work, i will receive a monthly pension(1429.00) that is below the poverty level, and pay 400 a month to cover my daughter and I with blue cross blue sheild. were is the generous benefits? I blame myself for not looking years ago, at the retirement account, i certainly would have pursued another line of work. As for paying bills online, I did that and was a identity theft victim twice from a supposed "secure" website. I now mail my bills because other than the mailman taking the envelope out of the box no other hands touch it until it gets to the addressee. For anyone that mails alot of packages, you better think twice about the Post Office shutting down. The fees with UPS and Fed-Ex would probably double. I know now, on a routine day, 60% of the parcels I deliver were originally mailed with UPS or Fed-EX. They are picking up the packages, from the sender, hauling them to the post office and remailing them through me. I dont blame them, it is a very smart business move when they pay half the cost to remail them through USPS and keep the difference. The Post Office is losing money because Congress is raiding it for cash to spend elsewere. That is cash they dont pay back, ever. As for Saturday delivery, the congress did not nix the idea. Donahue is saying that packages and medications will still be delivered on Saturdays thus satisfying congresses requirement for six day delivery( the law doesnt specify exactly what is to be delivered on Saturdays).
while i was working one day, a couple of years ago, i noticed one of the sanitation guys walking from the rear of a house pulling his trash bucket. I asked him why he has to go to the rear of some of the houses while other homeowners roll their trash to the curbside. he told me that some of the homes fall under a "grandfather" policy which allows the homeowner, that has always had rear trash pickup, to continue to do so. i dont know what the policy is on this service, but it would seem to me that all homeowners should roll their garbage to the curb to help keep down costs. unless they are disabled!
