I think it is probably a good vaccine. Most of the horror stories regarding vaccines are unfounded and I think that probably is true regarding Gardasil as well.
I personally have more reservations of giving a vaccine to girls ages 9-12 to prevent a sexually transmitted disease when studies on effectiveness are only documented out 5 yrs. Maybe I am naive, but I think it is scheduled too early.
Well done, Mr Heim. You can give an accurate statistic, let's hope you are turning a new leaf.
I think Perry made a mistake in 2007. The vaccine Gardasil was not on the market even 1 year when he made it a mandate to be given to all 6th grade girls. He did this by executive order to bypass the state legislature. His motivation was in question as he was lobbied by Merck and received campaign donations.
I support the approach of then governor of Alaska Sarah Palin who did not mandate the vaccine, but did make it available to girls ages 9-18 at no cost.
Leading causes of cancer death in women: 1.lung, 2. breast, 3. colon. Your wife is a physician, ask her. Stick with your ludicrous opinions because when you bring up facts and statistics, it is just embarrassing.
The Clinton "surplus" was only a projection. National debt grew under Clinton, in fact, during all eight years. Read for yourself:http://www.craigsteiner.us/articles/16
Just a correction, Prop 8 was the amendment to ban same sex marriage.
Here is a good read on the issue and pretty fair without the incendiary name calling in Fitzsimmons piece.
"The opposition to the marriage amendment holds true across party lines. Democrats (63/23), independents (52/35), and even Republicans (47/37) say they would vote against it at this time."
I for one as a Republican will be voting against it but agree with Geoff that labeling everyone for it as bigots is not right.
It looks like Geoff and jimt are at it again, bickering like an old married couple. This amendment should finally put an end to that.
I am a fan of fuel efficiency and new technology. I think hybrid cars are pretty amazing and am a fan of the Prius. I just do not understand the present fascination with the Volt. It is way overpriced and only affordable due to government subsidies. Yes, it does not have emissions from a tailpipe but the electricity in the US is derived from >70% fossil fuels, most of which is coal. It simply shift the pollution to the location of the power plants. Not until we change how electricity is produced in this country does this become a worthwhile endeavor. Presently, it is not much more than a gimmick to make drivers feel good about themselves. Plugging in your car is like buying steak at the supermarket instead of going to the slaughterhouse.
(Sorry, I do not mean to answer for MikeNC)However, the program above was made possible in part by a $30.5 million grant administered by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Recovery Act Transportation Electrification Initiative.
Also, the each purchase of the Volt is subsidized by a $7500 tax break. This is crony capitalism at its worse.
I agree with you. Charles Krauthammer wrote an interesting piece addressing just this warped idea. It is a good read http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-911-overreaction-nonsense/2011/09/08/gIQAc727CK_story.html
