Aw, c'mon, don't you just love how the ornate brick work looks in the soft glow of the neon BailBonds signs ?
If it is illegal for commissioners to discuss the sale of county property behind closed doors and there are recordings of the BOC doing just that, when does Mr. Picerno plan on "... holding those accountable that don't play by the rules" ? Does he think himself and the rest of the board above the law ? I suppose they make up their own set of rules as they go and think that rules that everyone else is expected to follow don't apply if you're a commissioner.
What I choose is to be a responsible adult and no one other than myself and the person with whom I am involved finance my adult behavior, which means - I do leave everyone else out of it. If abortions aren't handed out, there will be less of them. If you want children to eat less sugar, just don't give out candy at Halloween, afterall, they don't understand the consequences of eating all that candy, right ?
JimHeim, you called contraception the "most effective means of preventing unwanted pregnancies " which I merely corrected. I said "I believe a person has a right to choose whether or not to get pregnant. I do not think I should have to support that choice financially, baby's daddy should." which I still believe. If one chooses to have an active sex life, that's perfectly fine, just don't expect me to have to pay for it. It is an adult activitity and adults should be responsible for their own behavior. Persons who lack the sense to control reproduction may also be "doomed to a life of disappointment" by creating lives that they are unable to properly support.
Sadly, the last sardine cannery in the United States shut down in 2010. Unless any producers have been revived, there are no canned sardines produced domestically. Apparently even the boost in sales from this annual event was not enough to keep them open. Yet another way that it becomes more and more difficult to buy American.
Mr. Heim, unless contraceptives are 100% effective they are not as effective as abstinence. So, contraception is not the most effective means of preventing unwanted pregnancies, celebacy is the most effective. Supporting abstinence is a societal good. And it saves lives, and bolsters morals, and prevents disease and promotes exercising one's right to be in charge of their own body. I believe a person has a right to choose whether or not to get pregnant. I do not think I should have to support that choice financially, baby's daddy should.
Isn't it illegal to have discussions regarding the sale of county property behind closed doors ? Should we be proud of them for such behavior ?
You're welcome and my apologies for the sarcasm, but it was out of frustration. I posted that picture at least once before in January. I spoke to one of the crews about a year ago and asked about having vegetation trimmed and was told to call the office so that a work order could be generated, which I did. I found out there seems to be no measure in place to do exactly what you did - drive around and scout for problem areas. It should not be the sole responsibility of the motoring public to identify obscured signs. There seems to be a standing order to have beds along the RR tracks maintained, but when it comes to safety, no such measure is in place. If ten or fifteen minutes per week were spent to cover the entire town over a period of time, it would make a tremendous difference in highway safety in Southern Pines. Thank you for taking the time and for taking action to adress this very serious problem. I saw the crew hard at work this very morning. I hope the efforts will continue - vegetation grows !
Q: Why doesn't Southern PInes have a maintenance detail that proactively seeks to keep street signs visible ?
A: They are too busy making sure the boxhedges on the CSX property are perfectly manicured.
If you look really, really hard you might see a stop sign, if not, you may see flashing lights out the back of the ambulance.
R.I.P. Audrey. We miss you.
