My personal opinion of these types of crimes are they should be treated as capital crimes. If you are armed, use it. If we were to start getting people like this out of our society, they would eventually get the message, or would all be in line to meet their maker.
I grew up in Moore County and thougth people there were intelligent, maybe above average intelligence. Since leaving 35 yrs ago, and traveling around the world several times, l see my ignorance. ABC stores are stone-aged fossils to distribute liquor. Heck, I would prefer bootleggers and moonshiners to ABC stores. As someone that lives in a progressive state, we buy liquor in the grocery store. We also buy it in the 7/11 stores, and local restuarants in places. Get the state out of competition with private enterprises. With the increase of sales, taxes will increase, not decrease. The state is blind in their desire to control all vice.
I guess if being detained while traveling to show your papers does not concern you, you are living in the exact right place. I am sure our forefathers are rolling over in their graves over this and so many other things that smack at our personal liberties. Like I have said, my family has lived in NC since the late 1600s or early 1700s but I had to leave, and choose to only come back to visit family and friends. If you are looking for a place that is free, alot like America used to be, we welcome you here in Alaska.
Hey Dusty, you said Sarah was secretive. No, not really, but you also mentioned her lack brainpower. Now, that is "spot-on"!! As someone that is in his 30th year living in Alaska, l know, or thought l knew Sarah. She is arrogant, and ignorant, and the only reason she wants to be President so bad is that she knows she can't be queen!! To let all the Pilot's readers know, Sarah Palin could not get elected as dog catcher here. I was once one of her biggest supporters, but she left Alaskans a long time ago. We just wish she would find a place down there to live and quit disgracing our wonderful State!!
I see both sides of this argument, although I am of the ones that DO possess an ID issued by the state. I could not feel more strongly about allowing ONLY US CITIZENS the right to vote. Illegals, are just that....ILLEGAL! There is one thing I think we should be vigiliant about, and that is....deporting them. I really do not have a horse in this race, as l live in interior Alaska, and we do not have very many illegals. For one, we spend about 4 months a year at 35 below zero, and for 2 months on either side of that it is still winter just not so cold!! That tends to keep Mexicans out of here!!

I do not do drugs, and never drink and drive. I am 54 yrs old and have had a successful government career, most recently as a mid-level manager, and will retire soon. I see no reason to be stopped by the police if I am not a suspect in a crime. In Alaska, I have a number of state trooper friends, as I work in the emergency management field, and would never in my life think an AST would stop me for "no reason". They will not even stop you for a real reason unless they feel a crime has been committed. We have a very good relationship with our law enforcement community here, and police are well thought of, and treat even criminals with the utmost respect when arresting them. Why are other states not like that?

I read these comments with complete disbelief. Folks, we live in America. We have rights to free travel, unimpeded by police. I do not have a horse in this race, but being from Moore county, and visiting there from time to time, I find this story and subsequent comments disturbing. I have lived in Alaska for almost 3 decades, and one of the reasons I do is that we do not tolerate this sort of thing. They tried having a sobriety checkpoint in Anchorage in the 80s, and our supreme court told the police to cease immediately!! We have never had them again. The serious disturbing part of this is how many people think this is appropriate!!!
It also is good for our military/industrial complex , as it keeps them all employed and raking in lots of money.
JER, I think he got your meaning pretty well. I was in the military for ten years, and traveled all over the world several times. I saw us arming two bit dictators all over the world....as long as it suited our purpose. Ferdinan Marcos, Pak Chung He, Chevalier, Norrieaga, the Shah of Iran, ...and last but not least...I was in Saudi Arabia when the hostages were taken and we were buddying up to Sadam Hussein!! I bet he rued the day he did that!!! Well, up until the rope got tight, that is.

What Was the Reason For the Traffic Stop?
