They all looked like the village idiot, with the exception of Ron Paul, Gary Johnson and Herman Cain!! I will not vote for anyone up there other than those three.
Nothingspecial, everyone has an absolute right to their opinion, but how can you think Ron Paul is "out there"?? He only wants what is spelled out in the Constitution. That is what we should all want, but many today think the Constitution is an outdated document. Personally, we should test every law, every regulation, every move of the Federal against it and see it that action is legal.
I spent the best ten years of my life defending that flag and the precious country it stands for. While I grew up in West End, I have lived in Alaska for over 30 years. I agree, children should be allowed to recite the pledge every day, but decline if they so choose. The same words that protect our right to worship as we choose, also protects them from HAVING to. I believe in strict adherence to the Constitution on all counts....one of the many reasons l have, and continue to live where l do.
Dusty, we agree on many things, but not this one. I, too, am a Ron Paul supporter, even knowing that he will never get the nomination. (although he just won the Ca. straw poll) I also believe that the govt. should help those that try but cannot help themselves, such as the elderly or those just down and out. If a 30something has a good job and can buy health ins. and chooses not to, then falls to some terrible disaster, then yes, maybe let a few of them die so the rest that can afford ins. but want to let someone else pay for it get the message!! I do realize that l do not fall into that category, but our country is broke!! I do not know the absolute correct answer, but we have to do something. I do know we will never be able to spend our way out of this mess, that's for sure!!
These comments are why I am a Tarheel by birth, Alaskan by choice!! What has happened to equal treatment under law?? Like a few other posters, I am absolutely amazed by the bigotry and hatred I see from "Christians". I grew up in the Southern Baptist Church, and saw this plenty in the 60s and 70s, but then left to spend a good part of my life defending our Nation, and in the process, found Alaska, where we are free like America used to be..
MC-7, Yes, it is time to go back to people taking care of themselves. I have worked on a number of national disasters, and every time there are people that ask; "Why and how did the government let this happen, and what are they going to do to make things right?" I feel so sorry for them. With the exception of national defense, and extreme disasters, we should be taking care of ourselves!! Keep extra food around, keep bullets, keep some gold or at least some money to get by when it all goes to crap. And trust me, the way we are heading, that time is surely coming. I am so happy that we live in Alaska and know how to survive. My family and many of my friends will do OK when it all goes to crap cause we know how to hunt and keep our houses warm and survive!! Good Luck to the masses down there that won't. Ron Paul is one that sees this happening also. Go back and look at his predictions, they are all coming true, even from several years ago.
I agree Hembloche, and yes, Ron Paul could probably help us out alot!! We would probably find that if we stopped being the world's policeman, and got rid of a bunch of programs, including the stupid drug war, that we will never win, then we might have a dollar or two and could reduce taxes for the common man or woman.
LMAO!!! Good one justpassingby!! I do not know, without a doubt, that Sarah has used cocaine. She has already admitted smoking pot, but that is not an issue up here. As a 30 year Alaskan, I would be more surprised if she had NOT snorted cocaine. It's use here is very prevellant. One sees it from time to time at any bar, of which, there are many throughout the state. While your comment is rather libelous, it still is pretty funny!!! Oh, by the way, Sarah did a hell of a job in her first year and a half being governor, but she could not get elected as dogcatcher here. She changed once she went down south to run for VP, and we just hope she will find a good place to hang down there and we can forget about her up here!!
Hembloche and DaveyNC, I think both of you said it best on here!! I live in Alaska, and have "no horse in this race", but that said, I could not agree with everything you two both said. I am sick of right wing conservatives, with the exception of Ron Paul, saying we are for smaller govt. and getting govt out of our lives, ......as long as you live just like we want you to. What do they think LIBERTY is all about? I am glad to see so much dissention on here towards this restrictions of personal freedom the repubs are trying to establish.
Arestorer, yes, some of us are still around. Yes those were the days too....days of Winding Wayne Andrews, Big John Sears and the lot!! I was a young boy with my Dad and Uncles the day that Curtis Turner took the first checkered flag at the new track. I also took my girlfriend from Alaska to her first race, the last race at the Rock. Looking back, that sure was a sad day that we did not even see coming. Andy Hillenburg deserves the highest thanks for what he is accomplishing down there in those sandhill pines. Best of Luck to him!!!
