Dusty: If you and I can agree on an issue, then maybe there are things our government can do I'n the bipartisan interest of all of us
Dusty: no need for me to respond. Behold the truth is self-evident. Not all writing is created equal. Maybe I would understand you better if I was not so sober. I'll make sure to read your writing late tonight after a pitcher or two. Maybe it will make better sense.
In any case, i wish you and those you love a wonderful July 4tth.
Dusty: I respect Mr. Laney mostly because I love the wit of Tom Wolfe and I learn from all responses to my writing, whether laudatory or critical. But, when I read your responses to my work I learn nothing. Do you understand why? Please reread your comment on this thread and others. Perhaps you will understand.
@jimt: Our state lottery ought to be repealed. We ought not tax the poor for schools by destroying families with gambling. Either we pay our fair share and build a school or make do with what we have.
The difference between McDonald"s monopoly and Sweepstakes casinos is the federal requirement of "no purchase necessary".. If that requirement was enforced, then the business plan of the casino would be destroyed. See my column this Sunday.
It looks like I will have to write something much more right wing so people can get a chance to criticize me more. I'll work on that for next week
@jim: so, if taxes are nothing but wealth redistribution, then perhaps you know why conservatives are against them. They need to be reduced, by that logic, unless you are a Socialist and want more wealth redistribution
@Rod: one of the biggest reasons for fraudulent tax returns is that the IRS has become a redistributor of wealth with programs like the earned income credit that allows refunds to those who pay no tax. People file tax returns just to get credits they did not earn. This is part of the problem with the Welfare State
@jim: Obama's last budget was so crazy the Senate Democrats rejected it. In fact, Obama is so out of touch on budget matters that his own party rejects his suggestions a's being too radical and refuses to pass a budget I'n the senate.
@ Geoff: it's ok. I look forward to your comments anytime.
